Well that’s the Casemiro Partey argument settled.

    No problems for Arsenal

As for Casemiro, guy's a headbanger, always has been. Somewhat protected in his Real days and pre-VAR, not so much now and with more and more instances passing him by in games, his recklessness comes to the fore.

Terrific effort from Ward-Prowse on the free kick. Clipped the top of the crossbar.

Poor final ball from Adams, otherwise Sulemana was through on goal.

Walcott should have scored. United are blessed. Put through one on one with De Gea, the finish wasn't good enough.

I thought Casemiro was a wee bit unlucky there. He gets a fair bit of the ball and then his foot rolls over it and catches the player.

Great save from Bazuna, that goal would have been against the run of play.

And now the woodwork has denied Southampton again. An absolute bullet of a shot from Walker-Peters smashes off the upright.

That's a dive from Rashford, he should be booked for that. Disgusting, trying to con a penalty. If you don't book players for incidents like that, they'll keep doing it.

I haven't seen the incident but you forget the number one rule.

    English player diving = clever.

    Johnny Foreigner diving = cheating.

You don't think Bazunu catching his foot played a role?

De Gea is still one of the best shot stoppers around .

The replay from the opposite angle seemed to show contact on the foot as he went Bazunu. For some reason that replay doesnt get clipped up, can't imagine why.

This angle does seem to show contact. Guess VAR thought it wasn't enough for a peno or it wasn't clear and obvious?

VAR is the issue with all these things as it is so inconsistently applied. No issue with the Casemiro red as he dived in and his foot came off the ball and was dangerous. However, there are loads of other dangerous tackles that go unpunished by VAR

    ..... or not.

Opportunity to consolidate CL even though honestly, they have it in the bag. Is there a seeding advantage in where they finish, or is that all coefficient stuff?

I wasn't watching the game and that was the first clip I seen of it

Bazunu did well today. Should do his confidence the world of good after some shaky performances recently.

Mod Note: please cut out the bickering, point scoring and baiting posts that are aimed at annoying others rather than discussion of the Premier League. I have deleted a number of posts today to assist on resetting to discussion in good faith.

Posters making posts to troll should already know they will receive cards and for the purpose of this thread I have updated the OP to offer additional guidance for posters: 12/03/23 - this is a general thread to discuss the Premier League.

If you support a Premier League team you should be aware you are likely to read posts that are not always complimentary about the team you like. You are welcome to make counter points to such posts but you are not welcome to make comments about posters or fans of a club in response to points you don't like. Posters doing so will receive forum cards and or thread bans.

Still a lot of football left but it seems no one wants fourth.

@citytillidie Thanks a mil for including the goal difference! Thought I'd chance my arm by asking.

It adds to the visible carnage at the bottom of the table, where its literally any 3 from 9 now.

Every season is the same when it comes to 4th place, no matter who is in the running for it.

It basically turns into a race between a bunch of teams who don't look like they want it, drop points in matches you'd never expect them to, and whoever gets it generally falls over the line in relief.

Also looks like United have been brought into it now as well so there will be 2 spots up for grabs

The level and standard of refereeing is at an absolutely shocking level. Like I actually don't know what they are looking at sometimes.

Just on the Utd Southampton match.

Casemiro red - I felt it was harsh but understand that if you tackle like that you open up the possibility of the Ref/ VAR getting involved. Yellow was fair but they seen fit for red. Fine.

Penalty 1 - Bruno gets into the box and walker peters goes to ground and goes through the player to touch the ball. Penalty.

Penalty 2 - Cross comes in and Bella Koutchap practically catches the ball in his midriff. Penalty.

Penalty 3 - Garnacho is scissor tackled from behind. Penalty. More of a case for a red here as well than the Casemiro tackle. A far more reckless tackle.

I just can't see how VAR can see fit to get involved in the Casemiro red card but completely overlook stone wall penalties and a worse tackles. It's bizarre.

It's quite worrying that professionals have the ability to rewarch these incidents over and still somehow come to these baffling conclusions.

There will be blame laid at the door of VAR but it isn't the technology that's the issue. It's the gobshites sitting in the VAR room. Total and utter incompetence.

You'd be under serious review in any other job for a performance like that

The scissor tackle is an interesting one, if they get the ball first then there seems to be no issue. It’s a bit like the keepers coming out to say a ball and then taking the player out of it….never gets punished.
