My girlfriend has epilepsy and recently had a seizure at work. She ended up with 2 black eyes from hitting her head on her desk. So, many people have made jokes about how I hit her. I hate this sexist mentality.

I wonder, if this hadn't happened to her in a public place, would I have to work harder to prove to people that I didn't do this?

My wife pucked so hard from morning sickness she ruptured so many blood vessels in her eye and it then swelled up like a black eye.

Every single time she was taken aside in the hospital at every scan away from me to be asked what happened. To be honest, as she should.

She had to get an eye patch as she was teaching kids online during covid at the time. I'm sure her nickname was pirate or something.

Only thing that came out of it is me getting the snip as she won't get up the duff again.

I'd be more concerned about the seizure OP which I'm sure ye are rather than people's reaction to it. Those things can be dangerous forget about other people's moronic opinions.

Anti seizure medication isn't 100% foolproof. They can still happen.

Sadly it probably would be the case.

Happened to a very good friend of mine. A neighbour called the gardai. They would not believe her and took him for questioning. One of the gardai wanted to charge him until he used his phone call to contact a superintendent in another area that was a family friend and knew of the collapsing.

If the Garda had the intellectual ability to call her gp he would have had the information immediately.

I believe he got a very meek apology

Yes. Proper order too. Abusers have all sorts of MO for covering their tracks, and all possible abuse should lead to the (possible) victim being offered the chance to access support services.

As mentioned by an earlier poster, this did happen in the hospital and subsequental medical follow ups.

We are together since our teens over 20+ years. Our friends and family would never suggest such a nasty thing.

However, “jokingly,” her female friends make jokes about it aimed towards me. Both in public and private, this is not a laughing matter and makes me extremely uneasy. They know me just as long as I know her and know damn well I would never do such a thing. It’s disgusting sexist behaviour and I have spoken to their partners about it as has my gf spoken to them.

It’s just shockingly accepted towards men these days which isn’t fair.

I have spoken to them and they laugh it off as a “joke.” We are in the same friends group for so many years and I am close to their partners. Many of which I was friends with before I met my partner and they met theres, so it wasn’t exactly a difficult point to get across or discuss
