Outstanding and with a pleasing brand of football too. No one gave them a chance when they first came up. Very little spent too

Thomas Frank has to be in manager of the year conversation now I know Arteta will get it if Arsenal win the league but Frank should definitely be in the running.

Ive been keeping an eye on them ever since I randomly passed a big construction site that turned out to be the new stadium. A very ambitious and intelligent club.

Thanks to them at least half the name London Irish now true again too.

Actions like that towards a referee should be punished harshly to cut it out. Similair with the abuse thrown at referees and crowding of players. The more it's tolerated the more players will push it... At youth levels things like this get yellow cards, don't know why it eventually stops.

Why is a player even touching an official ? Wether it’s deemed a tap or a push he’s an official

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭djan

I'm not sure of your bias but its fairly clear that he pushes him rather than a tap on the back. Look at the refs body reaction. Are you saying that when you're in the shops and moving through a busy aisle this a normal way to pass someone in your way???

Yes the push isn't some big tackle but its the principle of a player even remotely thinking that it's ok to raise hands towards an official.

Shouting and surrounding refs is another matter that has often looked at by media etc. FA should really take a stand to support the refs otherwise the amount of people looking to do the job across all levels will continue to drop.

Most impressive thing about Brentford is that Frank switches between formations effortlessly and the team is unaffected by the changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭djan

Definitely something that hasn't been stressed enough. Given the level of players at his disposal its even more impressive. Also he's not relying on one player to carry them but the whole unit is working really well together.

I can't understand why people are making digs about little things like that tap. Or a dive or tackle or whatever.

Jeysus a team got beat 7-0 and there seems to be almost nobody slagging off about the humiliation of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,779 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

To be fair, they only got humiliatied because of the antics and performances of one or two players. And getting beat 7-0 be a tame that played better is one of those things, but getting beat 7-0 when players just stop trying? Yeah, the individual players deserve the rap for that. Fernades being top of the list (that said, I didn't think there was anything malicious about the linesman incident) - but waving your arms about because a teeenager got the bettre of you....?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

You don't lose 7-0 just because of one or two players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,779 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

They did. I mean, they'd have lost anyway, but players giving up led to a higher scoreline.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Absolutely.

I'm a United supporter and this isn't down to one or two players.

Casemiro is missing or has an off day and the whole team collapses.

De Gea, Shaw, Dalot, Fred, McTominay, Sancho, Martial, Maguire, Lindelof, AWB have been around for years and bar the odd good performance have proven they can't be trusted in big games.

How many managers have these bluffers gotten sacked. I've lost count at this stage.

I contrast Real Madrid going 2 down at Anfield. Did they panic or collapse like United. Did they fcuk.

They showed courage and bravery to rip Liverpool apart.

I'm prepared to give ETH time to sort this out but make no mistake it's not only Old Trafford that needs to be rebuilt.

Most of them are average players who probably can't believe their luck that a team like United came in with a big contract. They are honest enough just not good enough.

De Gea blows my mind though. No way he is so innocent or loyal he is holding on this long to see if United get better. He doesn't seem like a guy strives too hard for excellence.

Missing the fact he was probably a bit miffed by the linesman putting his hands on him just before too. In some heads it's up there with Di Canio seemingly in their quest for point scoring.

Hilarious that you're more focussed on Bruno after a 7-0 win against your team's biggest rivals. Says it all really. Nice link to get around the charter too 👍

I'm not talking about his antics during the whole match, he was disgraceful. But Robertsons play acting when hit in the stomach worse than his, both awful though

He made a point of giving him a push, I'm sure partly because he linesman had grabbed him earlier.

It just ridiculous that a player would even do this to an official. Football has a lot to learn from other sports in many regards. If they took the same approach as rugby with regards to respecting the officials, making the timekeeping of the game transparent and visible to everyone, and making dialogue between the ref and the VAR open, so that everyone spectating can hear what's going on, you'd go a long way to improving the sport.

Half the name London Irish? What are you referring to there?

Edit; I see London Irish play home rugby matches in that stadium, what does “half the name” refer to?

When playing in Reading their nickname was the not nots. Not from London and not Irish. The days at least the London part of their name is true.

That's the captain and leader of a team who just lost 7-0. He sets the example. Maybe a defining reason why they lost 7-0 with his mindset. Bruno was lazy in his workrate and lost his head as the goals started rolling in. His petulance carried through on other players and players like Shaw started acting up fouling people etc then too. We saw that last season too with that Hannibal lad fouling someone for the sake of it and Gary Neville cheerleading it on Sky.

These acts of petulance have been very common in recent games. Bruno got booked in both games last season for needless fouls while being hammered 4-0 in both at the time. Ronaldo's childish kick-out and booking against a kid. Bruno was booked for diving in the game at OT this season and acted like a spoilt child when Salah scored trying to hide the ball and then was faking injury again when Salah got the ball off of him. Man Utd could have got a penalty if Bruno didn't dive at 3-0 too which should have seen him yellow carded again.

To be fair, the manager can also be blamed for selecting him to play LW. Bruno didn't do half enough work and as a result Trent, Elliott & Salah had the run of that side of the pitch. A large contribution to another hammering. Long may these acts of petulance continue in these games as we know what happens afterwards.

Yep that would be it. In fairness they actually do have a few Irish players at the moment as well.

The Brentford owner had an interesting interview on Guardian Football Weekly a few years ago where he talks about prioritizing the B-team over the more restrictive academy system which turned out to be very beneficial.

I'm far from being a Bruno fan but the shite that's being posted here about a tap on the back of the linesman is laughable. He barley touched him. Imagine if he took a bite out him...

I don't have much of a problem with Bruno not being punished at the time - but certainly deserved a talking to from the lino or ref, and maybe a bit of a fine or something now, just to show "this is unacceptable".

Though it was mild, it was still very obviously an aggressive action towards an official, rather than the casual carefree thing some seem to be suggesting it was (which i'm pretty surprised by, cause, like, literally just look at him...). Literally every aspect of Bruno's body language in those moments was incredibly wound up. Like, if you were to caption it, it'd read "get outa my fückin' way".

Arsenal have somehow gotten a few fines for surrounding the ref, different rules for Bruno Fernandes obviously, horrible player to watch. Interesting to see some people downplay it, I was under the impression pushing an official was universally considered to be beyond the pale.

Looking like they'll be fined for celebrating a goal now too, whatever stick the FA have up their arse about it.
