I read on another i4 forum that they appear to have removed that storage area on the latest builds. It isn’t visible on the configurator now either.

    penny pinching I assume.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Confirmed that it is removed, picked up the car on Monday and it does have the extended storage but no lid there.

I suppose if there is nothing behind it, can easily cut a hole and put the G20 version there if they are the same size but too much effort for little gain, was only good for sunglasses anyway.

I'll see what's there once I fit the dashcam.

I fitted it to my F36. Just buy the cubby and cut the hole out.

Yeah I'm sure it's a quick job it's just this stupid "cost savings" BS that annoys me.

And another stupid thing, the USB C plug in the center console is power only no data so no music there have to use the one near the wireless pad.

You plugging a hard drive with music in or what? Not seen that in a long time.

    Isn't everything wireless now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Nah one of those tiny usb sticks, I'm old skool like that, not that I don't have spotify and all the music on the phone anyway.

But the usb stick is literally sticking out 5mm over the usb port so meh

Worst is the loss of the AC control buttons and heated seats, not sure what moron decided it's a good idea to have touch screen controls for that, sure it's fine when stationary but not when driving. I guess I better start using the voice controls.

did you get the m50 version @SD Dracula?

what colour and spec have you gone for?

I read as well that they have deleted the ambient lights in the door pockets now too. Have you noticed this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Yeah the 50, tanzanite blue and pretty much all except 20" and sunroof.

Was a cancellation so had no choice.

Pretty sure I have seen those small LEDs in the pockets.

If you value music quality (another discussion in a car really), wireless connection is not the way to go. FLAC on a USB sounds much better. Wireled carplay and android auto is also less compressed.

my 90s hip hop mega mix sounds great in wireless carplay 😝 and i dont look in any way foolish.....

Can you do wired CarPlay? Something I must check out.

The streaming services have upped their game here in the last year by increasing the bitrate of the streaming quality so should sound better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

    100%

And harman kardon helps a little here, BT streaming is meh at best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,742 ✭✭✭yllw.ldbttr

I'd argue that on any decent sound system 99% of people can't hear the difference, especially not in a car.

Loading FLAC audio files (not to mention the absolute PITA downloading or ripping them) onto a USB and updating them etc.. meh.. seems like an awful lot of work for an almost imperceptible improvement.

I agree that at home in a setup optimised for audio it's a very different experience.

Well that is the discussion alright, but as an audiophile (or audiofool maybe) I do like to know I have the best input into the car possible. Source first is the rule with audio, and I can certainly tell the difference between wired MQA from tidal on wired android auto and Bluetooth streamed AAC or MP3....its likely mostly the mastering rather than the CODEC but you tend not to get great mastering on heavily compressed music anyway.

Cars suck balls for listening to music anyway, they are reflective glass boxes and most "high end" audio systems rely on calibration and eq which is audiophile kryptonite.

If you understand the three letter acronyms above you might care, if you dont you wont.

If I told you what I listen to I would be mortified. Sometimes I get out of the car and the music is still playing, and I can hear it well from outside....I get greatly embarrassed that I was listening to ABBA so loudly.

Tanzanite is a beautiful colour. Well wear.

are first impressions as you expected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,742 ✭✭✭yllw.ldbttr

    Interesting outcome for this car....

Might be worth a mention that in by previous BMW I had a USB hub in the arm rest to extend the ports and had a USB stick in that, worked fine.

I don't think BMWs support wired CarPlay, only wireless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Yup exactly as expected, no one needs this much power but boy is it fun 😁

Also, it has the turn radius of a truck compared to the 330e, not sure why it's only a tiny bit bigger.

It's such a pain in the ass for tight small car parks.

All is forgiven once you get a bit of open road though

Yeah for sure but 360 cameras are the alloys savers 🤣

On my car I have a profile set up called “car park”.

And when I’m going through a tight car park, it’s default settings are the same as my profile except the wind mirrors and pointed fully down so you can see the rear wheels as you turn through the ramps and thus avoid any kerb damage.

    Very handy feature.

I cannot figure out for the life of me how I can change what is displayed in the center of the instrument cluster.

    image.png

Should be able to have map, radar and cars around me, music, etc but when I toggle with the BC button it's just trip info.

Where is it hidden in the settings menu?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Button on the right hand side of steering wheel I think. I had a m50 loaner for the weekend from the garage a couple of weeks ago and seem to remember that was where it was. Different from my 330e where it’s the left stalk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭digiman

What was the verdict? Are you still buying it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭carsfan2

    Yeah

ultimately I did a deal on the financials I’m happy with so will go ahead.

I have to admit I was underwhelmed overall with the car though but not enough to cancel. Maybe I expected more but once you take the ridiculous acceleration out of the equation I struggled to see how much better it was than my 330e in day to day use.

The turning circle is dreadful, I like the security of run flat tyres which will be gone with the i4. The screens in the i4 look good but aren’t as good as physical buttons and I will miss the short cut buttons.

That said it’s a super smooth and effortlessly quick car, looks good and is worth a punt in my opinion as long as it doesn’t get delayed until 2024

Looks like yes the door pockets LEDs are gone and also every door puddle LED (covered with blanks).

🤬 me for expecting that on a 90k+ car I guess...

Not good. I know they are “little” things, but it’s the sum of all these little things which are “supposed” to put bmw ahead of other brands.
