They're better than interviews where they ask you rubbish like "where do you see yourself in 5 years time?" and want to hear how "passionate" you are about flipping burgers or sweeping floors.

In fairness though, these interviews are Irish Rail's first opportunity to actually speak to the person on the other end of those aptitude tests, and give a face to prospective candidates instead of just numbers and figures beside a name.

And the hiring of locomotive drivers is a safety critical role, where I imagine concentration, exceptional safety awareness and key judgement making skills are essential.

As a current prospective candidate, (sat the 16pf on 30/09), I can see the value in these tests, I cannot say I enjoyed them 🤪, and perhaps they will be the ending of my IR journey, but their design is inherently , in theory at least, to make sure that they get the people most suited for the role.

Has anybody who done Phase 2 Assessment on 19th September heard back at all? Ive got no correspondance since ive heard of people who done phase 2 on different days have interviews done already. I know a lot of people who done phase 2 on my day where for regional I applied for dublin but was on holidays when the dublin application phase 2 assessments took place and Irish rail accomadated me with different dates im wondering if this is why I havnt heard back as the assesor on the day told me they had completed selection for dublin based applicants.

Send them an email. I'd say if you didn't pass Phase 2 then you'd know by now.

Anyone hear anything after the medical?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,448 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Had mine in early September. Haven't heard anything since.

Had mine last week. Doc said all was good. Will just have to sit tight so if you still haven't heard.

I was away and missed my medical in July, then done the rescheduled medical in September too. Just waiting now to hear about the next round of line manager interviews. From what i've heard each phase is done in batches, so we may just be waiting for sufficient numbers to move to the next phase.

Hi, Anyone pass all the tests for Dublin Connolly or Droghda and awaiting an invite for interview? I received an email 29th September 2022 to say I'd passed the tests and next stage is interview but heard nothing since.

I'd send them a follow up email to ask about it.

    Howaya lads.

Got an email from driver recruitment to complete an online 16pf questionnaire. Just if anyone is still waiting to hear just make sure to check your junk mail incase you miss it👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,448 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Is that a new thing? or are they trying to cut out the in centre questionnaire?

Yeah a new thing I believe it's to try and keep more things remote but it's basically the same thing as the questionaire at the centre

I see that they are recruiting for platelayers. Its a handy job if you like being outside , a bit of night work and doing training in inchicore etc.

    Hi there

Just looking for opinions of guys and girls who went through the last driver recruitment.

I done my 16pf interview last week and got an email today about the medical.

Would that be an indication the interview went well or is it just standard procedure to bring you for a medical either way.

    Thank you

Heard there's a perway job coming up in a location near me.

Would a perway job be a platelayer ? Or would that be a different job completely ?

What would the money be like, and Normal working hours be?

Thanks for all your help In advance

There’s supposedly 4 diesel classes running this year, with one being a regional.

    One of those just started.

One dart class I believe, but I could be wrong.

Whats the maximum age one can be to apply ??

Yeah it's the regional one I'm in for at the minute. Seems to be a big push on at the minute
