Mini trip to France from Barcelona. Any recommendations?

We're staying in Barcelona area for a week but would like to take a 2 / 3 day trip to France then head back to Barcelona.

We are willing to go as far as Montpellier. We'll be traveling by bus.

Where would you recommend in that region? There's obviously Montpellier, then there's Perpignan and Narbonne. And a million little towns in between. Just having a scan of Google Maps.

Anybody been in this region of France? Any recommendations for a couple of nights? Remember we will be going by bus so no "hidden gem of a town" in the Leitrim of France that needs a 4x4 jeep.

What we're interested in is nice beaches a bit of tourism. A castle or two or whatever or a bit of wine tasting.

Just a suggestion and you can have a look on YouTube for more. It is not beachside, but you have that in Barceloneta beach in Barcelona. Try something different!

I know you mentioned France, but this suggestion gets you both Spain and France. Get the train from Barca to a town called Puigcerda not far from Andorra. It is a very chic and well off place (well from what I could see of it). It is on the Spanish side of the border to France. I'd stay there for a night or two. THEN... you can take a short trip by train from Puigcerda to Latour Carol for the Petit Train Jaune (little yellow train see youtube). It is a great trip in the Pyrenees, not too long either just a taste. Plenty of nice restaurants and bars in Puigcerda but you might need google translate, it is deep Spain!.

If you have time you could try get to Andorra for the dooooty frreee, but it is nothing much TBH as it is a ski place mostly. Anyway you don't want to exhaust yourself trekking around either.

I did it by car in the opposite direction, from Carcassonne down to the Pyrenees/Andorra and on to Barca, Sitges and Tarragona. Squeezed in the yellow train along the way too. Great trip.

Collioure is a very pretty little coastal town south of Perpignan.

We did a day trip from Barca to Montserrat & a winery. I don’t know have You been there? It’s one of the most beautiful places around Barcelona. Yes it’s all in Spain but You mentioned a castle & wine, this trip incorporates both.

Also there is a funicular up the side of the mountain, with stunning sights atop the mountain.
