He’ll keep turning up until he’s jailed again, or until Issac gets himself kicked out of whatever it is he does, and they need someone to hold the box at his circus.

I wonder will his cheerleaders be back insisting how smart/brave he is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭_gir

The cheerleaders don't care for the man, just the cause. They'd probably love something worse to happen to him so they can obfuscate and say he was a victim of western liberal beliefs rather than his feckless behaviour

The Gardai should be called and he should be removed.

I can't imagine the stress this must be causing the students and the other staff members.

I bet the new Principal never anticipated this sh*t show when he took the job.

It isn't just teachers, I remember this case with a Garda Sergeant convicted of assault. She lost her job initially.

It was overturned because apparently it wasn't explained to her properly why she lost her job. Em, it's because you are convicted criminal? You are supposed to be catching criminals not become one.

What sort of grown man needs his daddy to drop him to work? Did his daddy drop him to work every day before he was fired?

Wonder if he has a sick note to cover his not showing up for work yesterday.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

What an utterly horrible and contemptible man he is- and one can no longer separate the man from the actions or beliefs. Defending him at this stage is beyond absurd as there is an unhinged and damaged mindset driving this behaviour. There is no reasonable 'cause' to fight for in this particular way; the chap is sick in the head. And yes, its the mother's fault, mostly. Walks like, talks like, looks like a Duck, etc etc

Instead of hand wringing and brow-furrowing, the Unions could do the profession and themselves a favour and outright condemn this behaviour and declare him the contemptible asshat that he is. Arrest him and seize assets. Leave the kids and teachers in WHS alone at this stage.

I'm sure the photographer's will be there for his arrest later today.

Ah no, I'm sure he is just there to pick up his stuff, not make a scene and leave quietly with no fuss.

And your employer would end up making large payments to you after a WRC ruling on your unfair dismissal claim.

All staff are entitled to due process. We’re not in Silicon Valley here.

Can we change the thread title to "creepy man hangs around school"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,794 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

This is a stupid question but I'm assuming it needs to be asked.

If the WRC decided that his original suspension was wrong, could he not still be fired for his actions since then?

I'm assuming that the was to deal with the suspension was to follow the procedure. So even if it had been wrong, surely everything he's done since then is a sackable offence?

    Absolutely.

Regardless of the legitimacy of the original suspension Mr Burke would be obliged and compelled to go through the correct process of appealing it.

    He's toast.

I'm not sure how the original suspension would be deemed wrong anyway. He will have a difficult time in proving that.

Nope, that wouldn't happen, there would not be a large payment. Payments at the WRC in the case of private sector employers are quite small. Even the few cases that do make headlines, and they are only a few, the payments don't make up for losing the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,794 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

I was just thinking for all the people who say he should keep his job, at this time it's a moot point.

    Exactly.

I assume the poster is referring to an employment where they had a questionable contract of employment. Possibly zero hour or no contract at all.

I'd also think that the school have decided on this course of action and are prepared to deal with any possible sanctions the WRC impose on them even if that is unlikely.

Based on what we know it's hard to see Mr.Burke being successful in any case.

I knew he would show up to school again

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Even if he does go to the WRC he will only behave the same way his sister did and end up getting nowhere. they dont seem to know any other way to behave.

Just to add this could now very easily become a criminal matter if he is there to protest or make a point of some sort. Not getting ahead of the legal process but if he were to be arrested fir causing a breach of the peace at the school it's my opinion that any Garda Vetting would be extremely hard to obtain. It wouldn't even require a conviction.

He has no reason to be there anymore.

What’s your definition of ‘quite small’?

I didn’t say that payments made up for losing the job, but they can be very substantial.

Failure to comply with proper procedures is frequently cited as a significant factor behind payouts. Any employer who thinks they can do instant dismissal for rudeness without going through due process will be making large payments.

That was 75% of two years salary. If enoch got the same it would be about 75-90K. Quite a lot of money but not really when your teaching career is over.

I'd imagine Enoch and the gang are waiting for the Louis Theroux exclusive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,079 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

It'd be easier to just fire him and let it go to WRC where any case would get fùcked out due to Burke's Circus rolling up to proceedings.

People thinking the Burkeys would get anything from WRC is as deluded as he is.

Dude was earning 219k per annum and the loss was based on that.

    Enoch might be on 46k?

Even if the procedure wasn't correctly followed, the decision might stand.

In the Leaving Cert estimated grades case they seemingly went through the legal process and let external professionals lead and they won without any drama. They know what they are doing.

You'd think he'd be inclined to drop the whole martyrdom stuff after he was jailed before and interest/support for him dropped like a hot stone. He's now made himself look even more unreasonable and he and his family showing themselves up as performative arseholes who were clearly looking for anything to throw themselves at in this way.

Whatever little public support they might have had before is only going to dwindle based on his most recent actions.

Martyrdom is the driving force behind it all. It's the reason for all the theatrics. His strain of Evangelical Christianity isn't out to convert people to their cause - they believe in pre-destination, that it is already decided who will be saved in the final judgement. What does matter to them, however, is the visible and unrelenting battle against what they see as the "forces of Satan", that is anything that goes against their very strict and literal interpretation of the bible (even other Christians). Being unpopular, losing a job or a court case or being jailed doesn't matter - in fact, they're badges of honour - because they firmly believe that they are fighting a war on God's side, and that their victory is inevitable.

Here's how Burke signs off his introduction to his 2020 self-published book "The Hedonism and Homosexuality of John Piper and Sam Allberry: The Truth of Scripture":

Read this book. Them reacquaint yourself with the Scriptures and seek to be effective in the service of God. It is time we rose from our knees, repented of sin, and went forward to do battle with the forces of Satan.

Time is short. Eternity is forever.

And the time for excuses is over.

A complete joker. Have they started taking his assets yet? And that of anyone who aids his activity? I see his father dropped him. Start taking the fathers assets as well. This would end pretty quickly if they did.
