Please send some snow to Galway !!!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,869 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Ah feck I spoke too soon, while the snow was sticking readily at first it has melted away between the showers and is now melting on impact. I guess it will start sticking again towards nightfall.

There's fairly large and heavy snow shower moving into northeast Galway now, if that's of any use to you?

I need it further west but thanks for giving me hope!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Suprised to see Offaly and Westmeath in there - are ME expecting a more organised trough to penetrate further south at some point?

Thanks Pad. Louth and Meath in there too - someone tell Gonzo, quick!

Did Met Eireann call this terrible weather we are suffering in the nw?

Schools closed today, roads treacherous last night and today.

Likely another snow day tomorrow as we have heavy snow falling on already thick snow.

Edit: just seen in the post above that Donegal isn't included, yet its been snowing here all morning.

My work colleague had a fair bit of snow a few miles inland last night here in Kerry .

I'll second this. 5-6 cm snow easily here in south inishowen. I didn't see this coming. Roads were dicey even if the car has all weather tyres. Schools closed and probably tomorrow also. Wanes having great fun.

So enjoying vicariously all the snow joy!

There is more atop the far mountains here that merges with the cloud. Sheer beauty...breathtaking

Bedtime here. Had a severe weather episode out here and almost no sleep the last nights. So need to try to catch up. I love my little home but while is is heat insulated there is no sound barrier ... The sudden crack and flash that hit a few nights ago at 1 am shook here and rattled me! And destroyed my modem... Deeply grateful for Westnet who sourced and delivered expert help and helpers .

I know that by tomorrow there will be more snow. In my first winter here I made a snowman,, maybe another.. I think there was a photo here?

    2⁰ Meath

Wall to wall bright blue skies all morning.

Cold. Still very bright and welcoming this afternoon. Light white cloud.

Radar is suggesting some snow showers coming from NW, but still very bright on the horizon here. Maybe some snow after school.

Proper big wet white (Atlantic) flakes here now in South Roscommon. Only a short shower, but the first snow we've seen falling in (two?!) years

They had no specific snow warning issued for yesterday or last night but they did add that some accumulations may occur especially in mountainous areas to a yellow low temperature warning. They issued a snow warning at 9.30am this morning for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo. It’s easily an orange warning today , I’m not saying that in a complaining way I’m just happy to get the snow with or without a warning. Coming down again now

Across the border there was a snow warning since yesterday and new one was issued today until 12pm tomorrow. Included in that warning up to another 15cm for northern parts on higher ground and widely a few cms likely to lower levels.

Donegal is in its own separate warning with Leitrim and Sligo, that's why.

Well they got it wrong, badly wrong, if they said accumulation on high ground.

I'm not on high ground and it thick here at teatime last night.

Did they issue the warning AFTER snow had fallen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,174 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Indeed it was only issued at 09:28 this morning. Very underestimated.

That's about right, issue a snow warning when it's already been snowing for approx 18hrs and it's thick on the ground.

An own goal for Met Eireann.

Last night was some of the worst driving conditions I have experienced in many years.

An own-goal alright, whatever about other counties, where shower penetration inland was a big uncertainty, Donegal should have been flagged as in the firing line since the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭KingJeremy

A little further south for county Galway would be spot on for me 🤞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,174 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

It is a puzzling one as you would think Donegal would get advance warning without second thought given it is a NW/N'ly and with very low heights 🤷‍♂️

So i think we can say this northerly have delievered for some. Hopefully there will be a trough or two between this evening and tomorrow morning that brings heavier snowfall more widely across the country. Ideally a bit of a freeze beforehand too.

LOL a few light flakes for about 5 minutes near Roscrea. I see a tiny blob on the radar.

Well that's snow ticked off for me - now feck off snow 😀

Plenty of showers lining up in the Atlantic, lets hope for some decent fetch and not just half-hearted dusty showers.

Plenty of frost still left on rooftops here in North Kildare. Hopefully those streamers from the Atlantic make there way over!!

I can confirm that snow (albeit light) is now falling at my house in (west) Leinster.

More organised & heavy showers approaching from the NW now.

The showers tonight won't be the powdery dry flakes of last night. Wetter flakes. Probably slushy with sleet near coasts. Inand could get a right dollop as it turns more snowy moving inland.
