Rowntree said last week that Fineen W should be back for the Benetton game and that Edogbo should be back for the Ospreys game.

sometimes its about picking the best player for the game in question rather than the best player overall

JOD's disciplinary hearing is by video conference on Thursday.

Maybe he can use the cian healy defense, whatever that is.

Crowley is a real competitor, you can see that out in the field. Even against Leinster a couple of weeks back, when Leinster were on the Munster line at the end, Crowley was playing pillar on defense and trying to go for jackel turnovers. Or even on Saturday, he was in the wars after picking up some knocks, but he was never coming off the field. You have to love that about him.

What's the story with Okeke? I had a quick Google and there's not much about him.

Two articles about a Snapchat scam that went to court but they're behind a pay wall it seems.

How's he supposed to bring fancy biscuits to a zoom meeting?

Okeke had surgery in October on a hamstring injury which put him out of action. He should be coming to the end of his rehab soon enough

he has been out injured for good chunks this season so far. That case was early last year. cant discuss it more and nothing more came out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,795 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Why can’t it be discussed more? The case has been closed, he plead guilty but was deemed to have a minor role and escaped a criminal conviction. He was paid very small money (think it was €50) to let a friend who was running the scam (advertise iPhones on Snapchat, take the money but not deliver any phone) use his bank account. All of the details of the case are out in the public, even if they are behind a paywall. IMO a saying he was involved in a “Snapchat scam” that can’t be discussed makes his role sound a lot worse than what it actually was.

I'm not sure that OL was trying to stop the discussion, I think he was more or less saying that he couldn't discuss it as that's all he knew about it.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I read his post.

    It was a youthful indiscretion

It's completely irrelevant to his rugby career.

It seems the case is closed so the social media case should close along with it.

I did some things when I was his age that could have ended up in court if I had gotten caught.

I reckon lots of people on this forum have some things in their past that they 'got away with'

I'm amazed that any person survives adolescence. It's a perfect storm of hormones and exuberance and rebellion.

Except now it plays out online or in videos and there is always a record.

I had it lucky being young when there weren't video cameras everywhere

Fair play to Ben, hope it goes well for him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,913 ✭✭✭✭phog

Well Ben is certainly following his dreams to play international rugby. This is the first step towards that dream. Hopefully, it will work out for him and I hope he gets loads of caps with Scotland.

As much as Finn Russell does right in any game he counteracts with mistakes as well, that number 10 jersey is not completely out of reach at all.

Im sure he will get capped in the 6N this year to have him tied down but it could be the summer before he gets a chance to lay claim to his place in the team.

Could be a good opportunity for Tony Butler to be brought in for the Benetton game

I know Technically healy could be called back, but he'll have missed the prep due to being in Scottish camp

I also know Rory Scannel can play 10, but why not bring in Butler to give him minutes against a Benetton team who will be missing their pretty much their entire first team

We’re lucky to have him and a real talent ….but what’s he’s best position …doing a fine job at 12 whilst everyone seems to think he’s a 10

  • Subscribers Posts: 43,015 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    personally i thinks hes absolutely a 10.

its not unusual for out halves (especially physical ones) to be introduced to senior rugby by playing them as 12's (similarly centres sometimes debut on wings etc) and i think thats whats happening with Crowley currently. i definitely see him as a long term 10 though.

I'd tend to agree - Butler should be given every reasonable opportunity to play over the rest of the season.

He's going to be in the match day squad for the first 2 or 3 months of next season with World Cup commitments to others so might as well get him game time now.

fair play to him but i think Munster and the IRFU will come to rue this long term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,913 ✭✭✭✭phog

The one thing Rowntree has shown is, if he thinks you're good enough he'll select you.

I'm sure Butler is in his thoughts for the Benneton game but Rowntree could wait & see who is released back to the provinces too.

It'll essentially be FLannery, Butler and Scannell covering 10 during the RWC right? (Assuming Crowley makes the squad).

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,646 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Ah he is untouchable. He is consistently brought back into the squad in embarrassing U-turns by Townsend after utterly unacceptable behaviour, helping to fester the toxic atmosphere in the Scottish squad. But that's how much pressure there is to select him for some godforsaken reason.

Healy will be doing well to get into the RWC and that should be seen as a success. After that its all to play for when he is in the Edinburgh team.

    I believe so.

Butler is the only 10 in the Academy.

"On the injury front, there is good news for Diarmuid Barron (shoulder) as he has returned to full team training.

Roman Salanoa was removed with an arm injury during the win over Northampton and will be managed by the medical department. His availability for Toulouse will be determined later in the week.

Jack Crowley is being managed following an ankle injury sustained against Northampton and his availability will also be determined later in the week.

Simon Zebo suffered a low-grade knee injury in training last week and is not available this week as he rehabilitates with the medical department. His injury is not expected to be long term.

Continuing to rehab: Jeremy Loughman (thigh), Tom Ahern (shoulder), RG Snyman (knee), Fineen Wycherley (shoulder), Paddy Kelly (head), Jack Daly (knee), Andrew Conway (knee), Keynan Knox (knee), Kiran McDonald (arm)." https://www.munsterrugby.ie/2023/01/17/squad-update-munster-prepare-for-toulouse-trip/#post

A bit like Ireland There really is nobody pushing him for that starting 10 jersey from the incumbent, it will be interesting to see if healy can do so.
