Curragh Birin, Castletroy

Hello All,

I am considering buying a house in Curragh Birin, Castletroy and was wondering what the area and population are like? Are the people there mainly local or immigrants? Are most houses rentals or owner-occupied? Are there many students in the area (because of its proximity to UL), or is it mostly professionals, families, long-term/ older residents? Does it get rowdy with parties throughout the year?

Wouldn’t be rowdy with parties but at this stage it’s overrun with

A) Students (mostly non-1st years)

B) Post-Grad students/Very Young professionals (Northern Trust etc)

C) Young, Rougher families (for want of a better word)

D) International Famlilies

Not the kind of estate I’d dream about buying a house in an potentially raising a family to be blunt

Hardly worthwhile buying there. Returns are spectacular there so unless you are investing it wont be worth your while. A 3 bed semi with no garage extension sold for 300k recently. Rooms are up to 800 euro per month there if you can find one.

This place always pops up in court cases - it seems a lot of unemployed young people are housed here. Definitely avoid it unless you intend on renting it out
