good few reports out that they are willing to sell sterling. they have some bloated squad at this stage

The Mudryk thing is mad. Apparently he asked the Donetsk owner to please allow him to sign for Arsenal but he was turned down, don’t think it the wages that sorted it. When he was being introduced yesterday he looked like he’d been licking p*SS off a nettle.

Shaktar are saying they are giving 22m of the transfer fee to the war effort

    The internet isn’t for everyone

I don't see his name in that article.

As for the suicidal ranting of an ex girlfriend on Twitter, I'm not sure how much credence if any I'd put on that.

Yeah they are going to end up with a few more Winston Bogardes I'd say.

    His head turned.???

I'd say he had SFA say in who he signed for, more like his arm being turned than his head I'd say.

So much wrong with this deal.....

Shaktar donating ~€25m of the transfer fee to victims of the invasion of Ukraine. It's a very noble move and has to be commended.

But something seems fishy to me about the deal. I dunno what. Maybe it's the last minute hijacking, of a little (relatively speaking) above the fee Arsenal were haggling over. Maybe it's a wages issue, although Mudryk had also agreed to Arsenal's contract offer.

Chelsea & Shaktar have also agreed to play a friendly in Donbass at some point in the future. Chelsea fans were happy to sing Roman Abramovich's name a week ago. He lost the club because of his supposed links to Putin & the invasion. Wasn't one of the terms of the sale that there would be donations made to victims of the war? Is there an alternative motive behind this move? It's probably just coincidence to be fair. Chelsea has been used as a sportwashing vehicle in the recent past though.

Moyes now strong favourite to be next prem manager to go. Also in tosecond favourite to be next Everton manager. Wonder if the two are linked...

Playing each other this weekend, wonder woukd a draw bring about the end of both managers.

Has it ever happened where 2 managers been sacked after 1 game?

There was a match between Eastbourne United and Redhill (both non-Premier League!) , where the Eastbourne manager got sacked straight after the 1-1 draw, and the next morning the other manager got sacked too!

Huge potentially overpriced deal with money going from a formerly embargoed club that was owned by one Oligarch to another club and straight out the door again, supposedly to an independent charitable entity controlled by the Shaktar owner, another Oligarch and supposedly Ukraine's richest man.

Look I dunno, while Chelsea thing stinks to high heaven to me to be honest. I have no evidence to say anything is wrong, I could be as far out as a lighthouse in my observations, but something smells off to me this deal in particular.

Chelseas business has been fairly erratic since the takeover and they have tried to gazump many clubs so nothing new in that regard, or the over paying.

Im not saying there is not dodgy dealings but then two things are standard for them since bohley.

Were they even in for this lad untill the red card Felix.

The whole things seems a bit rushed to be any sort of plan like he was only days away from going to arsenal

Yeah, Chelsea’s squad needs to be realigned. Kante, Azpilecueta and Jorginho all out of contract too in the summer. At least Potter will try and bring through any young lad who he thinks could develop into a top class player.

I think it's just the usual money bags owner who doesn't have a clue about soccer so he throws money at whoever is in the headlines right now or any "big name" that becomes available regardless of if you need that position filled.

Very much in the mold of United and Liverpool with the Yanks like the H&G bid for Andy Carroll or Glazers buying Sanchez etc.

Yeah Todd is just showing the rest of the PL that he has massive balls basically. I do wonder do they do any scouting at Chelsea whatsoever though because their latest thing seems to be bid for whoever the other big clubs are in for ie: the magpie effect. Oh, and massively overpay for players too ala Fofana, Cucurella etc

Not sure, but that happening and immediately afterward one of them getting hired by the other club would surely be a first. The clubs swapping managers would probably cause the universe to implode but who knows, Hammers still carry a torch for Lamps....

If it has ever happened it's bound to have happened in Italy.

Mad stuff happens there especially at Fiorentina and to Pozzo owned Udinese.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

On a completely unrelated note but since you mentioned Italy, I see if clubs finish level on points at end of season they have a play off match.

This sounds like a very interesting way to decide league champions. I kind of think that with the league it’s fairer being judged over all seasons results and goal differences , but the thought of a league play off to decide champions is tasty.

What would people think of a playoff with level points ? I’m kind of mixed on it. Hi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,325 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Serie A does head to head over goal difference for all places and a play off for champions.

It used to be a playoff for relegation and European places first too but the other factors are first now.

Came close to a playoff between the Milans recently which would have been epic.

I think the loss of the neutral venue game in England is something to lament.

Really? I was jut working off what it says on LiveScore app.

Did seem a bit odd but would be epic end to season.

If it ever does happen it will be the story of the season or the story of many seasons like Leicester winning the league or Liverpool ending the long wait

Clearly an alias. His real name is Jay Cartwright

If Utd win their next 2 games they’ll be 3 points off the top. I don’t think they are good enough to win it but it is a mad season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,884 ✭✭✭Pogue eile

3 points maybe, but with a game extra played and a far inferior goal difference, could just as easily be 7 as 3 and if they lose to Arsenal then they are definitely out of it. It's a must win for United, Arsenal can afford to lose or draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,342 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Top 4 was the peak of my expectations and a win tonight leaves an 8 point gap with 5th. Considering where we finished last season, a 3rd or 4th place league finish and to win a cup would be a brilliant season imo. Arse and City will Duke it out for the title and it will come down to their two games.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,227 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

That's true, but their game in hand is at the Ethiad. They actually haven't played City yet this season. Despite it being half way through January we're only now reaching the half way point of this season. Utd only play their 19th game tonight. You'd normally be 25/26 games in at this stage. It's like having an 8 point lead in late November in a normal season. Plenty still to play for.

Now I don't think Utd are going to win the league and I'd be delighted to be safely top 4 by March, but a loss on Saturday wouldn't be the end of the world and Utd can still be involved in the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,869 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Good point regarding the mid-way point.

That's probably affecting clubs at both end of the table, eg if Everton & West Ham etc were in this position after ~23 PL games, would they be a bit happier to pull the trigger on their manager and give the new manager the opportunity to bring in some new faces.
