Abramovich would sack Potter, hire Zidane, and probably get a CL out of it.

Going back to sometime in October too...

Of the plerorah of former Arsenal goalkeepers still playing, Kepa has to be the weakest.

If Chelsea sack Potter, you’d have to ask bigger questions about the guys that hired him. Nothing about that hire screamed immediate success. He will eventually implement his methods there and be more successful.

Is he necessarily better than Pep, Klopp, Ten Hag or Conte? Definitely not proven to be so, but I don’t think anything to the contrary has been proven in his first little while there either.

Potter is in trouble, it’s all well and good saying that the owners have a plan. Well, as Mike said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

The people who hired him just stepped down in place of a full time director of football.

Ah, me too... Somewhere in a parallel universe or in the confines of my head Kepa is a former Arsenal keeper - dunno where that came from!

Just checked the Chelsea score and had to laugh and felix being sent off was the cherry on the cake.

I have not one tiny bit of sympathy for them. Russian dirty money used to build all their success for 20 years and curry favour with the English that helped embed Russian money in the heart of London.

Easy to forget and that’s how sportswashing works. They deserve all the pain they are getting And many seasons more of it. long may their man United led Edward Woodward headless chicken approach continue. Buy More players please you absolute basket cases.

Yeah, but let’s be honest, Boehly is still likely to make the major calls on the manager front rather than DOF.

Serious sack race between Potter and Lampard now.

Potter really fùcked up leaving Brighton for that circus.

Yeah, it’s a decision that’s looking worse by the day alright. For a guy that’s never struck anyone as money-hungry, he’s taken a big leap against that by taking the least secure job in the sport for immediate financial gain.

    What about Moyes?

Game coming up against Everton shortly

Frank got the dreaded vote of confidence from Moshiri yesterday. If they lose at home to a buoyant Southampton on Saturday however he could well be sacked.

I have no way of answering that question and I doubt you can honestly either.

Jesse Marsch might want to rewatch Leeds at Newcastle if he wants to see some time wasting.

Where's the proof that he went for the money?

I'd more likely believe that he saw the Champions League football and the opportunity to win trophies. I'd also argue that managing Watford might be slightly less secure than Chelsea. Either way, it it not going well, at all.

    Maybe he just missed Cucurella.

To be fair to him, when those chances cone it can be hard to say no - lads operating at that level are generally not short of self confidence, and see themselves as able to overcome all obstacles. Add in the remuneration package and it was very tempting to him. What's the worse that can happen, 18 months later he's a multimillionaire, is working at a lower level EPL club and financially secure for life.

Maybe he didn't factor in the basket case club Chelsea is at the moment, but hard to blame him for going for it - if Brighton'S form dipped again he might never have gotten another chance.

Nathan Jones looks like great odds to me. A couple of wins in cup competitions won't matter much to the owner.

Nothing this season will top Nick Pope.

3rd minute of the game, the ball went out for a goal kick. He called on the doctors to the pitch, took some panadol and took the goal kick in the 6th minute. Surely if you had an issue before the game, you would sort it before the game and not 3 minutes in. Clearly a pre-meditated move designed to waste time.

Lots more during the game with goal kicks etc.

Then fakes another injury in injury time, resulting in 2 mins additional time being added on. Last minute winner scored in that time.

    Beautiful karma.

I do enjoy the hysterical reactions of some teams fans to Newcastle's time wasting like they've never seen time wasting before. The truth is all teams do it especially when they are getting a result away from home against a better team Newcastle done it at Arsenal Liverpool Man Utd and Leeds, Bournemouth and Palace done it at Newcastle and fair play to them it is called game management you do what you have to do to get a result particularly when you are against a better team. What do you want these teams to do exactly? Roll over and let you win?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It's just because it's newly minted Newcastle doing it.

If Forest were shthousing all around them people would think it hilarious.

It's like how Atleti were applauded for it for a while until they themselves became considered "a big club"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,873 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

"When they are getting a result" 3 minutes into a game when the score was 0-0. And now faking blurred vision is called game management. Players are not meant to be treated on the pitch by the doctor, unless it's a very serious injury, they are meant to leave the pitch to get treatment so play can resume and stop the time wasting. Pope didn't do that at any time.

I suppose you also celebrated when the likes of Richarlison and others used to fake head injuries to in order to stop dangerous attacks via the referee stopping the game, only to get up and play on perfectly fine 30 seconds later. 'Game managemen't, not cheating.

A small bit of time wasting by delaying set pieces, holding the ball up in the corner etc at the end of the game is all part of it. That only comes into play after 75/80 mins of the game Having a pre-determined time wasting game tactic by bringing doctors on when they are not needed, throwing stuff on the pitch to delay the game from the 1st minute etc is a level above and classless. There's a difference.

Players can get injured or have issues at any time of the game and it sounds absurd that they would plan to bring on a doctor after three minutes. It just sounds like an insane conspiracy theory with no proof. I'm sure Newcastle wasted time later on in the game though as every team does.

You want the goalkeeper to leave the pitch for treatment while the game continues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭TipsyMcStagge

I didn't realise you were a doctor and could determine Pope was faking injury? You wan't the keeper to leave the pitch for treatment?? Fcuk me pink I know you Liverpool boys are used to favourable treatment from the officials but the opposition keeper having to leave the pitch for treatment would be taking the P1ss don't you think?

It seems to me that you've concocted this insane conspiracy theory that Newcastle pre planned using the doctor to waste time after 3 minutes?? Surely if they were pre planning such a move they'd do it with 3 minutes left?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,873 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Yeah cos a Panadol can fix an injury that came about when the player had just walked onto the pitch and didn't touch the ball once.

If he was suffering from sickness or migraines or headaches or blurred vision, he could/should have either known about it 5 mins earlier and dealt with it the training room or just come off the pitch and sub off if he was that bad. Instead, he took a panadol and was fit enough to continue the rest of the game, and fit enough to not complain about the same symptoms again throughout the game. Ironically, he was fit enough to fake further injuries later on in the game, costing his team.

Unless there is a different injury that is magically healed instantly by taking a tablet? Please inform me, as ye clearly watched the game so must remember the incident well. It was only one of a number of incidents to be fair.

And I absolutely would think that it was pre-planned as many managers talk about playing at Anfield and 'not letting Liverpool have a fast start '. In addition to the blatant time wasting tactics that Newcastle have employed all season. IIRC, Newcastle conceded a goal under Howe last year where a player was on the ground faking injury so were a player down. Lascelles I think it was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭TipsyMcStagge

I did watch the game and I seem to remember Newcastle being the better team in the first half and time wasting then in the second half after Liverpool equalised in particular. I think you need to take off the tinfoil hat and relax a bit ye won the game after all.
