Most world leaders barely meet. The do stuff via phone you see it in press release all the time. USA POTUS contacts russian counterpart to discuss. situation. Zoom worked fine in the pandemic. I would be all for Public zoom meeting in discussion around the climate World leaders talking we can look in behind the curtain. Not that it would ever happen.

Genuinely questioning what this has to do with the thread title or the ongoing discussions. It has no effect on emissions or climate change action.

Reposting press releases from Green Party Ministers is strange carry on on a discussion forum especially given there’s usually no shortage of material to discuss here

You see the problem is that every single issue needs to be put down as a result of "climate change". The latest being climate wars ? Ukraine, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Burundi, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo have all had migration due to conflict and is **** all to do with climate change but the greens as per all of the green agenda is to rewrite history and future conflicts as climate migration to facilitate their agenda.

He even got a office fitted out for himself and the cronies. The D4 privilege is strong in them greenies. I suppose they make a contribution to some African dictators pension fund to offset the carbon footprint

You're just being deliberately obtuse now. There is no way you could miss the point this badly otherwise.

I don't care out the jetting around bit. It's the single minded focus on CO2 being at the root of all evil, in their minds, that is complete BS. There are many more pressing issues that should be tackled in a far more productive manner than worrying about the CO2 bogeyman and acting like solving that one issue will make everything rosey in the garden.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Jesus Christ we are fooked if we get climate lunatics trying this crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,251 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

But nobody says solving climate change solves everything else. Solving climate change is a prerequisite to solving everything else in the long term.

    Think of any problem.

It is made worse if we don't tackle climate change

(You don't hear many complaints in Ukraine about unfixed potholes even though winning the war won't fix any of the potholes)

You mentioned drought and famine earlier. We've seen nothing compared to the droughts and famines we'll see if we don't take enough action on climate change (and were not anywhere close to doing that yet)

Maybe the world should act faster so that we don't start incurring those climate costs and states don't start trying their own geoengineering projects

First off they weren't stream of Syrians as was later pointed out officially, but a lot earlier by the so called racists.

BTW the official line is that only 49% were Syrian.

Oh and most were young males.

There were Afghans, Eritreans, Iraqis, Iranians, Somalis, Tunisians, Algerians, Georgians, Moroccans, Turks, Kurds, Moldovans, Albanians, you name it.

And yes there are wars in some of those countries, but a hell of a lot of them are supposedly safe and war free.

And yes if things keep going and the madness is extended as per the likes of the green idiots, we will in Europe have to start actively defending our borders and yes that would mean shooting invaders.

There is no way in hell we can just keep taking people ad infinitum.

I am not allowed discuss …

    The atmosphere is 70% nitrogen

There are cheap and easily produced catalysts that prevent the formation of Nitrous Oxides from burning Hydrogen in a nitrogen rich environment.

A hydrogen fueled power station would produce fewer sulphur dioxides or Nitrous Oxides than an existing coal power station

That's not what they saidkind of the opposite, in that we can't wait until 2050 to have our first emissions reductions

If climate change isn't stopped there will be over a billion displaced people by 2050. People who's traditional homes are no longer habitable due to climate change.

We should probably start stockpiling bullets and body bags now...

At your chicken licken impersonation again ! You should go and watch the life of Brian last scene and relax with your scaremongering. The migratory process of humanoids can be put down to environmental, political, economic, social or cultural reasons but according to yourself it's all down to climate change and if we stop it then there will be no migration. Let's say climate change was stopped tomorrow do you care to put a figure on the number of displaced people by 2050 ?

wtf are you on about? half of them were syrians but there wasn't a stream of syrians? and how are the green idiots responsible for people coming to europe in their droves?

Many posters have and continue to maintain that rural communities have no alternative to the private car. In the context of there being an alternative I post info related to increases in the provision of LocalLink, BE, IE services and routes and now this additional service.

In addition folks love to claim (see the thread title) that green policies (whether by the GP or not) are destroying the country. I find it very interesting how much evidence there is against that point and post it.

Is that not just what greens here favor doing with their hopium of wind+hydrogen providing 100% of our energy requirements where they nonly cannot even give a cost for let alone explain how it would work to the scale required.

What other country has proposed going with 100% dependency on undependable wind power rather than a variety of energy options ?

We saw in September the shambles the school-bus scheme is and has been for years, yet you somehow believe an edict from above will magically solve all the public transport problems.

You really need to get out more and take a llook at the real world rather than spending your time posting links from HQ.

Actually what we saw was then when it was made a lot more appealing, it became the most convenient option for more and more people, as a result, it became over-subscribed.

It pretty much proved that PT is a viable option for way more than originally thought, it just needs to be made attractive.

A very encouraging sign and the demand can then be used as a justification for increased investment in PT

Locallink isn't an adequate substitute for the car. A cursory glance at the timetables would show you that.

The wife's home village has a service. First bus to nearest town is around 10:15am. Last bus back leaves that town at 4pm. Not much use if you're working in that town or making onward connections once you get to town.

No one solution works for every use case, however based on the growth in numbers using it, LocalLink does work for a fair few folks, especially elderly who may no longer be able to drive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,500 ✭✭✭howiya

So what's the solution in this example for people who work?

Increased investment in PT to offer more routes and greater frequency.

It should be noted that this will only go so far when you have one-off housing dispersed down every boreen. At the end of the day, due to how we've allowed planning and building to occur in rural areas i.e. outside of villages and towns, there will never be a solution that will allow 100% of rural dwellers access to PT within walking distance.

That being said, its still possible to get a decent uptake and so is worth doing

Huge increase in the provision of active travel infrastructure on the way over the next few years in Dublin City

    • Currently 10km of protected bike lanes in the city
    • 30 cycling infrastructure schemes coming to deliver
    • 310km of segregated cycling & pedestrian infrastructure
    • 60km by 2024
    • 90km between 2025 - 2027
    • 160km after that
    • Once complete, 95% of Dubliners will be within 450m of a protected bike lane

    Lots to look forward to

I never mentioned one off housing. Was referring to a village.

When will this investment happen and how can people from that village get to work in the meantime?

What happens if they work somewhere that isn't on the one bus route?

You can pretend all you want that there are viable alternatives to the car but the reality in rural Ireland is different.
