Ryanair says you have to buy an extra seat to bring a musical instrument into the cabin. I assume this is for large instruments like a cello or a guitar. Would I get away with a fiddle case as carryon luggage? Has anyone any experience of this?

If it fits in the baggage checker then you're good.
