Will it still be ok when we have a guy ploughing a truck into Arnotts or Brown Thomas killing people?

Well I wouldn't be worried about it too much for Arnotts. But all us important people would be in BTs so we can't have that.

So the Irish Refugee Council are allowed to question whether or not having huge amounts of single male refugees makes children unsafe but its a dogwhistle when people in East Wall do the same

Jesus Christ. Your man is a tool, but where exactly are the "articulate people who know what they are talking about"? They just called him a Russian asset over and over again. They didn't inform anyone about anything, they relied on slander alone as these types often do. Both sides are as ignorant as each-other.

A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Who could forsee shoving people into unsuitable accommodation would lead to these issues.

Oh yes the far right people who raise concerns about unsustainable immigration.

Whilst I agree with you on some of the above, I do not think wearing masks was bad.

Masks stop some ignorant fooker sneezing or coughing directly in your face.

And how is that fooking bad?

I totally fail to understand how something scientific proven to help lessen transmission of air born respiratory ailments was seized upon as something so bad.

Fooks sake would you and all the ones agaist wearing a mask be happy to be in an operating room where all the doctors and nurses wore no masks?

And we were refusing to discuss migrants entering Europe back in 2015/2016 long before Covid ever hit.

You are exactly part of the problem that the right have, by dragging in conspiracy level stuff about covid and masks.

You might as well throw in the religious shyte about contraception, abortion, divorce, same sex marriage.

You have already alienated people before you ever get to immigration, crime, welfare state, etc.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Surgeons wear masks in operating theatres to stop mouth droplets from falling, that does nothing with covid

People like yourself seem to have your own level of idealistic naivety. Where you're waiting for perfection, the perfect party to come along that ticks every box that you want, and none of the boxes that you don't want, but it won't happen. There won't ever be a party tailored for the jmayo's of the world, and you'll get absolutely nothing that you want because of your desire for purity. There's no such thing as perfection in politics, and the sooner you learn that the better.

So some fooker with covid coughing out droplets will not be lessened by a mask?

I don't want any fooking purity of anything, but that doesn't mean I want half wits who think people shouldn't bother wearing masks to protect themselves and other people from possible transmission of a virus that can infect respiratory system.

Once someone starts coming out with that shyte I and probably a lot of others immediately start thinking of half wits like Waters and Doherty or rabid Trump supporters.

And it also doesn't mean I want fookers that want to drag us back to Dev and McQuaid running the shop where we look to the Rome and the old local parish priest as to how to live our personal lives.

If we had a fooking return to centrist politics of a couple of decades ago we would be making strides.

You're proving my point. All the things that you don't want have an overlap with things that you do, hence why you're not going to get your way. Politically speaking, you want something very narrow, so narrow that you won't get enough votes to actually get anywhere. I personally don't believe that there will be a politician solution, as I don't trust any politicians regardless of what side they claim to be on, but you were speaking in terms of persuading the people, so I'm assuming that you're thinking of political outcomes.

The videos going around showing Ukrainians renting properties in Ireland must be alarming to people.

If true no issue with that, As long as they are not receiving state funding or the dole. If they are using savings they are more lightly to go back when it's safer.

You engaged to try and insult me but it was schoolyard level stuff and then when I reply you skulk off because both you and I know there was absolutely nothing of substance in Toms post.

So the council plan on CPOing properties and then sell them on?

And all probably to house somebody that arrived in the country the other day without two cents to rub together.

So un-elected unaccountable officials get to decide whose property they confiscate.

Can't see any problem with that.🙄

Hell we can do 19th century reenactments with the local officials and police force placing new tenants into properly formerly under the control of someone else.

That’s not what the Irish Refugee Council are doing, and people in East Wall aren’t doing that either.

It IS a dog whistle when a small group of people use everything they can to make out that everyone who doesn’t share their vision for Irish society are a threat to Irish society.

They are council employees, public sector workers, director of services in Mayo's case, county secretaries or managers who are involved in these vacant properties, housing initiative websites.

Drive down any rural road in the west of Ireland and at least half the houses are 2 - 3 room cottages with no insulation, no DPC, a basic cement septic tank and limited heating. They are used as equipment / turf stores etc. by the kids who now live in the new houses built on the family land. no one would be legally allowed rent these properties but they are still used as figures in every report on empty houses. One lane I know of has 5 such houses compared to 3 relatively modern houses. These figures are only useful if they include the ages of the house.

You could actually bother reading the article rather than spouting sh*te

Director of Services with Mayo County Council Tom Gilligan explained that the council will assess vacant properties and then contact the owners to see if they are interested in taking part in the project.

Then those people who are interested in buying the properties can view them on the Homebuyer's Hero website where they can declare an interest.

he said the project is focused on people who are looking for homes, who want to make it a principal private residence.

The biggest problem is vacant properties in small towns and villages. They need to be brought up to spec, but the current owner would rather leave them empty and rot. This is why these need to be put on the market and allow someone else to bring them to standard. And if they wont, sell them on again

The Migrant Council of Ireland? Do you mean the Immigrant Council of Ireland, who haven’t expressed any particular concerns about sexual abusers among refugees, or the Irish Refugee Council, who also haven’t expressed any particular concerns about sexual abusers among refugees?

The Irish Refugee Council have expressed concerns about the conditions refugees are being accommodated in, in terms of children’s needs and their safety and, ironically enough considering what you’re asking, concerns about privacy within the accommodation they are being provided with.
