Ok, and would you say his Examiner articles belittle the ref?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,202 ✭✭✭✭phog

And he does commentary on the local radio.

Some posters need to stop looking for something to be outraged by - they try hijack every match thread.

Same posters, same agenda, every match thread, Head count, booing, ref bashing, Munster player did something terrible, etc, etc, etc ,etc

Kleyn would have been expected to play the full 80 minutes so I expect him to be on the injury list in the squad update this morning. I'd have loved to have seen Edogbo play but he had surgery last week so is unavailable probably until next year. It's a dose

We should have been able to bring McDonald into the squad but afaik there are some crazy IRFU rules attached to how we can use him and yesterday didn't qualify.

If we play Toulouse with our first choice team, we win that game. This means playing Beirne in the back row with 2 fit locks at 4 and 5

I'm still optomistic that Snyman will recover and play in the new year, so if we can have the likes of Kleyn, Snyman, Edogbo, Ahern covering 4 and 5 with Beirne at 6, Hodnet at 7 and Coombes at 8, we've got enough power to match any side in Europe.

Sure but fair to say there's a different level of analysis required for an article in national paper vs from his personal twitter account

I have no idea. Just mentioning if he's not a journalist then he's definitely skirting the line of being one. He's been paid to write in a newspaper.

It doesn't matter a damn, if you going to be outraged by his account why:

    1. Follow him/read his account
    2. Post his stuff here

It's for no other reason than to get noticed and get a reaction. It's as close to trolling as you'll get.

Not sure if this is pointed at me but I'm not outraged by his account, I don't mind what he says or where he says it (he's a Munster focused account, good for him), and I didn't post anything from his account here. I'm just commenting in general on the fact he features in newspapers and it's hard to keep the fan-account thing going when you're apparently a journalist, imo. It's a tricky line to straddle.

We’ve had the full gamut this weekend...

    1. Munster’s attendance criticised.
    2. Munster's fans criticised.
    3. TRK criticised.

    Despite:

    1. It was the higest attended Champions Cup game this weekend.
    2. Loads of rugby fans boo ref decisions. It's bewildering to expect any different.
    3. He's a social media fan account.

(Oh, and a bonus "Munster are telling John Ryan he doesn't want to move his kids again". Which is a really weird take, imo).

For whatever reason, Munster are held to a different standard by some posters. And it makes sh*t of this thread at times...

He’s not a journalist though. He writes in a provincial paper. Trying to create traction for itself based on the anti Dublin meeja notion. He’s not hired to write serious analysis. He’s not a journalist anymore than any fan with a blog is. He is a Munster fan, writing for other Munster fans. Which is perfectly fine but any analysis he gives should be viewed as exactly that.

Exactly this. He's partisan. He make no pretensions not to be partisan.

(And even beyond that, the accusation that the LooseHead was belittling the ref is way off and grossly unfair tbh).

Anyone criticising the attendance at a game in the weather we experienced over the last few days really need to take a long hard look at themselves. There's no ifs, buts or ands about it.

What 15 would people like to see next weekend? I think I'd go with something like this:

    1. Loughman
    2. Barron
    3. Ryan
    4. Kleyn (assuming fit)
    5. Beirne
    6. POM
    7. Hodnett
    8. Coombes
    9. Casey
    10. Carbery
    11. Earls
    12. Crowley
    13. Frisch
    14. Nash
    15. Haley
    16. Scannell
    17. Wycherly
    18. Salanoa
    19. McDonald
    20. Kendellen
    21. Murray
    22. Healy
    23. Shane Daly

With Crowley starting, there's an option to go Rory Scannell ahead of Healy on the bench either, but that backline looks pretty exciting to me.

Latest I'd heard was a potential February return for Snyman. Hopefully he can return the player he was, but it's a big ask. If he can, he could be a game changer for us.

Without Snyman, Ahern, Edogbo and Wycherly (and Kleyn has had niggles), which is fairly significant depth to be without at 2nd row at the moment.

That means all the Dublin media Leinster fans are not journalists. Explains a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,202 ✭✭✭✭phog

Barring injury will we see much change, though I think we'll see the return of Murray (to the bench) & Earls starting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,949 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

I think Scannell will start ahead of Barron too, but would like to see the latter get a go.

Why can't Kiran McDonald play these champions cup games? He looked more than decent in the Springboks XV game. Is he injured? Or cup tied due to the whole Wasps debacle? Really need him on the bench for the next game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,202 ✭✭✭✭phog

I've no idea but a few guys in Thomond Park yesterday were saying IRFU are not allowing him to play ERC games as he's a medical joker, others saying Munster didn't register him.

I hadn't even thought about being cup tied but I thought you could be named in one squad, not feature for them and go on to be named & play for another team.

Tbh, I' ve no idea why he hasn't featured but if he can't play for use in the ERC it makes sense why we didn't use him the recent URC games

Think it's some quirk of the terms of his loan deal . but not certain.

He's not on loan, his previous employers are gone bust...

Maybe if he's only on a short term deal, and when he's in the market again in January, he doesn't want to reduce his own value by being cup-tied.

(Maybe Munster just thought they were better off with JOD and Kendellen on the bench)

Only 600 tickets left for Munster v Leinster. Not bad going for a match on Stephen's Day at 7:30pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

That would make you part of his target audience in the Examiner.

I don't really get the argument for why Munster wouldn't start Crowley ahead of Rory Scannell at 12, other than losing Scannell's left footed kicking option.

Munster look much more dangerous (and I think Carbery looks better) with the additional playmaking Crowley can bring. Crowley is also the superior athlete I think. It would be one thing if there was still a DDA style option who is obviously different, but Crowley can do what Scannell can do and more imo.

Does anyone know where I could buy a Munster jersey? I was hoping to buy last seasons if possible as a xmas present. It seems lifestyle is the only place I can find but they only have the new jerseys and they are 90 quid which is is not in my budget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

I too love the idea of a Carbery, Crowley and Frisch playmaking axis, but while there's so many injuries to the pack, I can see Scannell keeping the starting place to provide extra help at the breakdown.

Well on the other Scannell, I do feel the Munster line out looks a lot more fallible with Barron throwing in, even though he's much superior to Scannell around the park. He had one absolute clanger yesterday and a few other poor throws.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,150 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

I'd be tempted to go for the same XV, although Barron's throwing is starting to become an issue which is a pity as he's electric around the park.

I'd keep Barron this week tbh. He'll be under nowhere near as much pressure this week against Saints.
