Iran executes first person connected to recent unrest.

The Iranian regime has executed the first protester in connection with the ongoing unrest in the country. Mohsen Shekari was found guilty by a Revolutionary Court of the ‘crime’ of ‘enmity against God’. He was accused of being a ‘rioter’ and blocking a road, as well as wounding a member of a paramilitary force. Observers have condemned the whole farce as a show trial.

Time this thuggish regime was comprehensively isolated as a consequence. Apparently our government wants to open an embassy in Tehran sometime next year. This should not go ahead if we’ve got any self respect. We probably won’t hear any condemnation either from Clare Daly or Mick Wallace if their previous ‘friendly’ meeting with the Iranian ambassador is anything to go by. Kick him out IMO.

Iran's population is young.

60 percent of the country’s 80+ million population is under 30 years old.

The days of Iran's Islamo-fascist regime are numbered, no matter what happens. The regime can continue to crack down on protesters but the regime will fall. Demographics will force that eventuality more than anything else.

RIP to Mohsen Shekari, by the way.

And finally, Clare Daly and Mick Wallace are disgusting parasites.

Ideally, the sooner the better. The Economist’s Democracy Index (2021) ranks Iran 154th out of 167 countries surveyed with an overall score of 1.95 out of ten. Civil liberties has a miserable score of just 1.47. Bloody awful regime that their unfortunate population has to suffer under.

Why is it all half measures, when the uprising in Libya took place the USA and Nato got involved, they took out Gaddafi's aerial abilities , striking targets, and they supplied weapons to the rebels, then UK came along with attack helicopters to back up the rebels.
When the people of Iran rose up, the world watched on with a bucket of popcorn, cheering from a far. They needed help, not cheering on

I agree it is time for EU as a whole to ramp up sanctions on named iranian officials, including police and prison officials involved in this. Sadly , we cant expect either Coveney or Martin to lead the charge here.

Ah yeah that's how you quell a popular uprising, by executing a man who clearly didnt fit the crime for capital punishment, even by that regimes own despotic standards.

This will only bring others into the streets in his name.

Countries need to free themselves from internal subjugation.

It rarely ever works out well when foreign military intervention is involved.

Better to apply sanctions to the regime, to continue to treat Iran as the pariah state they are.
