-6 still at Moore Park. 30km away at Cork Airport it's 0c. Been that way over the the last 3 hours. Thing is I live near the airport and my station is -2.6. Moreover other stations nearby on Wunderground go from -3 to -5. Crucially though all those Wunderground stations, including mine, are at about 100m asl below the airport. Assume the airport's temp is evidence of temp inversion?

Met.ie radar still showing a swing and a miss for any showers making it onshore for Dublin? Bray gets a glancing blow around 2am. What model does their radar use?

I think it got to -12 on Christmas Day 2010 in Cork. I remember it well because pipes froze on our new extension before we had time to concrete them them! Nightmare.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'm surprised not to have seen the words "Polar" and "Low" mentioned together yet?!!

SH**e, I should have photographed it, so maybe people might believe me.

I note Kermit that you decided to ignore the bit where MT said ye were like Messi (7 time Balon d'Or winner, multiple champions league winner, multi la liga winner, French title winner, Copa America winner, etc) OR HARRY KANE!

    Why wouldn't they believe you?

It was -6 or lower in many places lastnight, including quite close to you.

Tiny dusting of fresh snow on the windshield in Kildare this morning

Moderate rain in West Mayo, the snow line looks to be still 400m+, quite surprising as you'd often get a lot more snow and lower in Winter on the mountains, even with an Atlantic-sourced system

0.3c here, the minimum overnight was actually early ish yesterday evening at -1.4c. Mostly clear skies right now. D14

Horrible out there wit that low lying misty fog.

No frost on the car or it has melted.

    Meath -2.

Those are midnight to midnight Doc. Dublin Airport had an ice day too to my knowledge with -0.4C from 09-09.

Radar seems to have updated now, big blob of precip hits the Dublin at around midnight!

Indeed, the lowest in County Cork from that period was -12.8C at Mallow on Christmas Day.

Some small showers making their way south over Mayo and weakening over Galway, Tuam looks to have gotten something wintery this morning? I can see the showers dying out in the distance.

I'm north of Tuam and the showers were freezing rain. Paths and roads are lethal now

I avoid driving when there is a danger of black ice, but brought the car onto the road this morning for an appointment, as it is 2C in Dublin. Still I was very nervous and drove with extreme caution, not my usual quick start, quick stop style. I’m absolutely dreading next week when I’ve a series of important appointments, and half thinking of booking taxis, as weather is set to get colder and with some showers of sleet/snow. Can’t wait for a thaw, don’t know how I’d cope in a cold country.

So cold in Dublin this morning, beautiful day though. The ice is crazy though, especially in the housing estates.

Regarding December 2010, is there any way of finding out what the lowest temps recorded across the different counties. I seem to recall the lowest was around - 18.5 degrees

The coldest I’ve ever felt was in Verona in Italy one Christmas, very dank humid cold that penetrated through all my clothing right down to my skin. I’ve been way warmer in arctic regions.

Only snow nerds get this. Always checking the car after a frosty night for forensic evidence of a few grains of snow, and the satisfaction that confirmation brings with it...

Very normal nice day here on the coast, feels like 5° or so, starting to get sunny, quite nice and settled.

A few miles inland though driving conditions are reported to be quite bad so we have the best of both worlds here I think.

Still icy here in Portmarnock with a heavy moisture laden cloud cover

    Proper cold

Am I right to assume if a covering of frost is okay to walk on (as in not slippy) then it should be okay to drive on?
