I must admit I haven't yurt, I don't know a whole pile about the quota tbh.

Speaking of numbers ,we are at asylum seekers this year running at 800% of last year's number. In the clown world some of ye inhabit is this sustainable?

Ilegitimate laws? There is a word often used in respect of the application of competing interests under the law and it is proportionality; in the current context, is it proportionate to invoke a 20 year old directive to open the borders (that are absolutely essential to a harmonious EU) to unlimited refugees and with a blank cheque book? A new directive should have been brought in specifically for the current crisis as it is quite tenuous to utilise it via two non-directly elected organs of the EU in order to put no cap on the number of refugees coming into the EU and with no budgetary constraints applicable, which is very odd when the EU economies are in big trouble trying to get back on their feet after COVID.

As usual, when there is no public engagement or consultation, the starting point should be one of cynicism, particularly when it concerns two political parties who have corruption in their genes as a result of being in power for too long unchallenged and therefore becoming complacent and arrogant. What is the end goal, what is the limit, where is the money coming from, where is it going, will it need to be paid back and why have the public little to no say in the matter. These are key unanswered questions.

How do you know there is an asylum centre near you ?

You surely wouldn't assume there is one by the look of people . So you must have read it somewhere ?

    Sharing a link isn't hard so ?

What the actual flip are you on about? How would I know there is a an asylum centre near me? 😂

As I repeated on this thread, there are some top-shelf weirdos floating around boards, and I am absolutely not linking to where I live.

Yes. I informed people posting identifying details about individuals along with thinly veiled accusations of impropriety that you can still be potentially done for defamation even if you don't explicitly state X or Y.

Perhaps you are another one who cannot process the information and therefore also want to dispute it. For no apparent reason other than to highlight your own ignorance.

What about yourself? Anything to add other than jump onto each and every thread trying to bitch about some people seeking refuge from a war and invasion of their homeland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭Tonesjones

There's no war in Albania, Pakistan etc.

Identifying individuals is an excellent idea.

Stand out of the way, you've said your piece but nobody is interested.

    The one question I have.

If these protests aren't racist, then why are they protesting at the DP centre?

Switzerland with double the GDP of ireland doesn't allow migrants/refugees apply for asylum. They keep them temporarily then funnel them into Europe.

You'll not find any Swiss hotel owners being strong armed into turning their businesses into shelters for all variants of vagabonds who wander in. Ireland is being had , same as UK. And its only the beginning.

I would say Furze, or suggest this politic of multicultrualism is a current Accepted Truth(tm) and a one of the strongest ones societally, politically and philosophically. For comparison to a previous such Accepted Truth(tm) in Ireland we only have to look at the Church and its position in society and politics. FF, FG, Labour, Republicans, even early SF who came out of Marxism all went very easy on the Church or outright wholeheartedly supported it. Same with the press, radio and later TV. Certainly very few questioned it, even when questioning would expose some serious flaws in that Accepted Truth(tm). To do so would mark one out as wrong, beyond the Pale. That only really kicked off in the 80's, the visit of Pope John Paul George Ringo being a high watermark and moving statues the last gasp. Only then did the floodgates open and pretty rapidly. By the 90's politics and society threw that Accepted Truth(tm) out the window.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Swiss sounds like smart people. Shame the same can't be said about ours.

It's an office building not a direct provision centre though. What happens if someone falls down a flight of stair. What happens is someone decides to smoke and sets off the sprinkler system ?

Where would be an appropriate place to protest that is demonstrably non-racist?

The Dail? The mansion house? Some other institution?

    Except that it is lies.

Poster with an agenda makes up pure **** and gullible eejits who want to believe it will lap it up

I live in Switzerland and we are aware of the Ukrainian crisis but it absolutely does not dominate the airwaves nor does the refugee crisis as, quite simply, there is sustainability as a core principle when it comes to border control. It is not racist or anything like that, but simply about ensuring a sustainable society.

I strongly believe that the EU will make this temporary protection last longer than it is due to last (in three months the initial temporary period is over) and cannot fathom how the sustainability of the whole thing is not being questioned. Populism was already rife before this crisis in the EU and it is going to get worse.

There's only one person whinging here.

It's entertaining though. The more frantically you post the clearer the image we see of the person behind the profile.

I'm only asking for proof of your assertion.

Why are you stating things as fact when you have no idea? You're just making stuff up

@Donald Trump do not post in this thread again

It's good that they aren't sensationalising it like they may have done, as it is clear that some questions have not been answered and the locals are right to demand answers. That's all the protest is about.

Newspaper vat rate drops to zero from January, to keep our pathetic media onside. Wont be long before Twitter and tiktok etc are banned, so they can maintain total control of what we watch and think...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

Newspapers, a dying sector, also depend heavily on government subsidy via advertisements of official projects and jobs. They are now to be to be out and out subsidised via zero VAT and actual subvention. Journos largely rewrite press releases, sometimes they barely do that, and with journal.ie the plagiarism can be seen in any article, if someone bothers to look. Journalists who parrot and plagiarise certainly don't deserve subsidy. Remember the British government, when they ruled us directly, funded its favoured outlets like the Freemans Journal. Our rulers have so decided to do this again, so that's it.

Ireland has run out of accommodation for her own. The social housing build is c. one third of what it was in 1970 when this country was poorer and far fewer people. Ukrainians have been successfully and efficiently sheltered in Poland before they return. There is no shortage of people and charities raising money for that practical humanitarianism. Anyhow, all recent governments have turned the rental and mortgage sectors into bubbles, favouring foreign investors who care only for housing the IT bro and partner. Given recent history, and overall tax policy which makes this country a sort of tax scam for US and German corpos, there's some sort of fiddle (Bertie's back on telly now I notice) involved.
