Presumably you only have PC game pass and not ultimate? Otherwise I'm sure this will play just fine on xCloud on steam deck.

Very happy this has reviewed well too. I was tentatively looking forward to it, with the demon in my ear telling yeah looks good but it will probably be crap.

This will keep me happy along with dipping in and out of MW2 MP (I know not everyone's cup of tea but it's how I destress instead of losing my temper with work colleagues 😅) and I'm also slowly making my way through plagues tale (and enjoying it too).

Yeah, just standard PC Game Pass. I'm usually away from my router when playing Steam Deck so wouldn't rely on streaming via WiFi anyway.

I wonder if they'll ever allow PC game pass games to be installed on the steam deck? That would be a major boost to both parties.

That would be a serious shut up and take my money move, both steam deck and GP.

Turned on Pentiment to play the first 30 mins. Ended up playing two hours. It’s superb stuff. Looks fantastic, has extremely sharp writing, and has the most delightfully nerdy character creation options I’ve come across.

I'm not a huge COD player but see Warzone 2.0 is out today (launching at 6pm Irish time I think). You can pre-download, on PS5, open Modern Warfare 2 page, select product and choose Warzone 2.0 for the free download.

Does it move on from the religious stuff? Made me turn it off, I'm really really really not interested in having a theological history lesson forced on me. But it does look like you can guide the story away from it with a few atheist type choices popping up.

But all the same, where I am now maybe 30 mins in I'm walking around a church and convent talking to monks and nuns.

Nice, thinking this would be a great game for handheld consoles.

It’s a murder mystery set in a 16th century Bavarian abbey in the midst of the Reformation… can’t quite escape the nuns and monks 😅 But it’s certainly not a ‘religious’ game, just one set in a religious environment. I’m still early, but yes there are options to reject church doctrine as you go on. One of the first big setpieces is a dispute over whether the teachings of Martin Luther are heretical or not… and you’re free to pick a side.

Personally I think it’s a fantastic setting and context for a game of this type, but if the abbey / convent setting puts you off I’m not sure it’ll depart too widely from that.

2021 Samsung TVs getting the streaming apps: https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/16/23462052/samsung-xbox-cloud-gaming-nvidia-geforce-now-2021-smart-tvs

I have one, nice. But it's also my gaming TV but it'll be interesting to dabble in Luna and some GFN 4k with the right game.

The new hbomberguy video is a delight. Starts as an investigation into the origins of a Roblox sound effect but disappears down a demented rabbit hole about game composer Tommy Tallarico. Some wild stuff, well beyond the recent Intellivision stuff.

If I remember correctly, some of you have gone down the OLED route for your gaming TVs? Those that have, how do you find them for NON-gaming usage i.e. streaming, movies, sport etc?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 31,115 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

I can’t speak to sports, but the reason I went with OLED is because it’s ideal for both film and games. With ‘filmmaker mode’ on (and motion smoothing off, of course) films like absolutely pristine. It’s a great all-rounder tech honestly.

Cheers johnny. It's actually my dad who's on the market for a new TV and tbh I haven't bought one in something like 12 years. So yeah, I'm a little out of touch!

The one small thing to keep in mind is that if he leaves the tv on one station for hours and hours a day than that’ll lead to some burn in risk with OLED. But it’s less of a risk with each model, and isn’t really a concern with what the vast majority of people would consider normal usage.

I've warned him advance but he has promised to treat it with TLC 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,555 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

TLC? So he'll be using it to catch up on 90 Day Fiancé? 😛

I've an OLED as well but I'm still learning how to get the best out of it with PC, PS5 and Switch hooked up to it.

Just on the TV discussion does anyone use a projector for gaming. I'm kinda on the lookout for something small that I can use in the home office. Not looking for top of the range or anything but would be interested to see if anyone here uses one or has recommendations?

I used to have a Philips picopix a few years ago but think the resolution was 720 at most doesn't really hold up anymore

You'd want top of the range to reduce lag as much as possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,629 ✭✭✭DeSelby83

I'd mainly be playing single player games so I could deal with a little bit of lag I think.

You can get close range projectors nowadays that point up at an angle, so you'd put it on a TV bench for example with the projector in the same position as a TV.

    Edit: Short Throw Projectors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

OLED is still the best for all content and especially gaming, movies. Think you'd need to spend a lot more to get a projector that could compete. Unless if course you value a huge screen over picture quality, lag, contrast ..

I think OLED is the best picture quality I've seen, including cinema projections. Just gorgeous.

Standard definition TV, less than HD looks pretty blown up and ugly on it. But that's just the TV revealing the source quality.

July, August often the best time to get last year's model discounted. But maybe good sales due to black friday too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Have a few physical games on my wishlist and none of them were discounted much, if at all on Amazon UK for black friday. And they are multi platform games that are a few years old.

Maybe I need to wait until cyber monday !

I see MS flogging their 2021 Xmas flagship game, halo infinite for 15 stg. Meanwhile BOTW from march 2017 still 46 stg. 🤪

Been playing a lot of The Witness lately. Kind of dismissed it when it came out but decided to give it another go especially with the way Johnny Ultimate sings its praises. Have to say I'm quite enjoying it. I love the island and the puzzles are mostly excellent, mostly. There's a few that annoy me, particularly towards the end of the game where I'm at now, also did not like the sound based puzzles but I guess it's because I must be tone deaf. I might change my mind by the end but finding the whole narrative beyond pretentious but you can still enjoy the game separated from it. There really are some ingenious puzzles in this game and it does a hell of a lot with a simple mechanic.
