Unfortunately many families don't realise that dogs and 2 people working full time in a house is a very difficult situation to manage until its too late.

What’s the youngest age you’d want your children when getting a dog

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,899 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

We got a dog when our eldest was about four years, our daughter was 18 months and our youngest lad came along a year later.

As long as you get a quite dog you are ok. Puppies bought up with children should always be quite and used to pulling and dragging. First dog was a cross bred mutt bit of spaniel, sheepdog and God knows what else. Second was a Springer spaniel. Never had any trouble with either as children and dogs get to know boundaries very fast. The mutt snapped at a young lad visiting one day. He must have been at her as it never happened before or after.

    lovely looking dog @kollegeknight.

I should have also mentioned we have our name on the list in the local dog shelter. We want a pup or pretty young dog though. Definitely not on for spending big money on designer dogs. Our last was a small terrier that we got for nothing. She was around since before the kids arrived so was sad to see her so.

Locally, our dog shelters look for €250. Like that, dog needed to be young and was replacing a family dog of 14 years.

we paid €350 for this lady with €50 back for luck. Fully microchipped and vaccinated.

I think it's great if you get a pup as they grow up with the kids. We've a labrador cross and she's old now but as soon as she sees or hears the youngest lad with a football she jumps the garden wall and is with him like when she was a pup. Posted here before about getting a dog from a local dogs home that attacked our daughter, she was 6 , she's 18 now and scars are still there. She's no fear of dogs and is doing vet nursing atm

We've had dogs from the local pound; two were sent back. They were older dogs and just bad tempered, couldn't be trusted. One dog we was frightfully timid for an awful long time, she must have had an awful time somewhere.

Trying to figure out the amperage/wattage of a tractor wire is a complicated business especially when you've never used a multi meter before.

Finally got the meter set up in the right way and then I wrongly put the negative wire on the meter to an earth on the tractor. Found out very quickly to stop that with the wires getting hot. Now I know thanks to Google to put the negative wire on the meter back to the positive pole directly on the battery.

Dosing cattle here today had the two young fellas assisting. One holding blackleg dose and the other the pouron. Both are panned out this evening. A bit more than the usual spin in the tractor when up in the yard.

Not looking good for the cow that fell in the quarry I’d say on Halloween. She was half up the last few days and on 3 legs but She was flat out this morning. Zero power in her right foremost. Had to use tractor to get her to sitting position. I’ll ring vet later and see what he says.

she isn’t walking when she is up.

Switched to burning firewood in the stove this Winter, don't know what I'll do without the hardship of drawing out ashes constantly.

Clamp meter that works on DC circuits is the simplest way to measure Amps.

Hey. I'm working full time, not farming, I'll have the green cert soon. I'm also under 35. Does this mean I get stamp duty relief?

I see different things online. Some saying you need to be the head of the farm holdings and then others don't mention anything about this.

Have to say the COP27 in Egypt comes across as an awful sham event.. 40k people all flying in many by private jet to 5* accomadation to tell others not to be living such decadent lifestyles.. The event centre is custom built and lavishly finished.. Can only imagine what the Co2 footprint of this evet alone is..

Anyone know when the GLAS payment is due this year ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,775 ✭✭✭✭Base price

We're all asking the same question over on the GLAS thread (https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2057581994/glas-thread). Last year it was paid on the 8th of November but no sign of it yet in the Financial Statements - paid or amounts due on Agfood 😕
