are people ordering the car key remote or happen enough with cards and phone?

I thought before I got my Model 3 that I would like the remote, but after a while I have found there is no real need, so didn't bother. Can be a little slow to wake up car to open charging door using the app, but found a quicker way is to open back door beside flap which then allows you to open charging door by pressing on it. There is no time delay opening car from your phone when you walk up to car..

Might not be explaining well, but haven't found the need for the fob

I have a fob, often don't carry the phone and easy to open boot or frunk from a distance without taking fob out of my pocket, just all around handier I find

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

If I proceed with the MY, I will most likely change the wheels for something from greendrive in 20" maybe. I'm currently looking into if a set of 20" Model 3 Perfomance Grey wheels will fit, the wheels from the 19/20 car, not the new uberturbines or I was going to get the silver 19" wheels refurbed in charcoal grey which is still an option, so I'll wait to see them in person.

    1. Wheels (either option 1 or option 2).
    2. Black T Logos on the Bonnet and Boot.
    3. Black or CF rear Lip Spoiler.
    4. Front windows tint (35%) Not windscreen.
    5. I will get the car coated as it's a new car and it's the cheapest time to get it done due to the lesser requirement for Paint Correction. A single Stage Correction will be all that's required, and I can't apply coatings at home as i have no garage.
    6. Mudflaps.

KeyFob - I had them on my previous Model S's and yes they are very handy. I also have one on my M3P as i got it from tesla for free but i wouldn't buy one. It's been in the bedroom locker since i bought the car. Phone key is a game changer to me.

I ordered one in blue , told me price was 54200 at first but when I provided some more details, changed price to 55k ?

tad sneaky eh ?, they also look for 200 plus for card keys

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,426 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

If you click through to the payment page, the price is 54,190. Thats made up of the 52990 and the 1200 blue paint option you selected.

Then the usuals get added like VRT, and VRT is slightly higher because of the higher purchase price so it explains the 54,263 purchase price.

2x Keycards come with the car.

Where are you getting the 55k figure from? Are you mixing up cars again based on your previous post?

Contract says circa 54200 so maybe I misread, any idea who I might email about the 100 booking fee I didn’t get back last year ?

Are they making them for the same cost in Germany as making them in China. Surely operational costs, labour is a lot less in China also I would think much of the components come from China so they would need to pay import costs to import to German plant also.

Good points, the margin on a Chinese Model 3 is substantially higher than that on a US built Model 3, from a quick google. So I'm sure the same would be the case for the Model Y. Not sure which parts of the car are not made on site, I think many are (the LiFePO4 battery excepted), But we're talking something like 20% vs 30% here, avoiding the import duty / shipping costs would more than make up for this difference. But it would no longer fully explain the price drop.

So is this particular Y cheaper again in the UK and mainland Europe ?, obviously a lot more expensive than in the U.S

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,426 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

No, we are cheaper for the RWD MY than the UK. A strange occurrence that I don’t believe repeats itself on any other car for sale today.

It’s hard to price against the US as they have local subsidies and then federal tax rebates that the owner gets after purchase.

What’s this I hear about the grant expiring on this in six months or so?, perhaps I misheard or misread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,496 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

    Hello,

Just wondering if there's a specific section of distance selling regs I should be quoting for this?

I had placed an order for a Model Y last week, I was planning to sell my Kia EV6 and swap to it. I had some reservations about swapping to a smaller battery and having tested it the ride felt a lot less comfortable/bumpy than the Kia and more external noise. However I figured I'd give it a go as I probably need the bigger boot space for a new dog that will grow big over the next 6-12 months.

By sheer coincidence I was in a Model Y taxi today over in France with my family and they all (even my wife) got incredibly car sick after a relatively short trip in the back. Considering my boys used to get a bit car sick in previous Outlander PHEV but were fine in the EV6 this has worried me sufficiently to cancel the order. I'd seen stuff online about how you can accelerate/decelerate more smoothly to try and overcome any car sickness and I know the suspension is meant to be tweaked, but I'm not willing to risk them all moaning/vomiting on me so will stick with the EV6 for the moment and maybe upgrade to bigger EV9 if it turns out to be good/non nausea inducing!

Anyway if there's a way of getting my deposit back that would be great.

Email the sales team. Quote distance selling rules.

Also beware that you were in the older Y with the older suspension.

I think the amount due here is key, don’t you?

add the 55170 and the vet amount of 4078 then subtract the SEAI grant 😉

The full €5k grant will exist until July 2023 and after that a gradual reduction will apply. No further details were made available in the budget. Personally I would expect it to be 75% 2023 H2, then 50% 2024 H1 and 25% 2024 H2 and then gone. Although it should really have been abolished already as people are buying EVs anyway.

Wouldn’t think so Tesla are working very hard to keep the Germans onside and the last thing they need is bad PR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 480 ✭✭rodneytrotter15

@Gumbo Are they the standard wheels that come on the MY just powder coated black ? The red brake calipers are throwing me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,496 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

Thanks G , I’m not the best are scrolling over details, so apart from not being an AWD, what is the difference between this Y and the red dutch one I sat in in sandyford last December?

    smaller range ?

    price difference is enormous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,031 ✭✭✭✭josip

There was a similar Chinese price drop at the same time as the Irish one. The suspected reason there was lower order reserves and to get it to qualify for subsidies, so I think you may be right.

Is the battery pack the only remaining difference between Shanghai build and Berlin build? Richard Symons back in July pointed out some minor differences, like the Berlin build having less plasticky door trim and better side support on the seats. But that was 4 months ago and maybe they have also since changed in Shangai?

Yes they are the not the standard wheels coated but you can buy brake calliper covers in a range of colours for the standard RWD

    Slower.

    less range.

    rwd

    thats it realistically. It’s like comparing a 520d to a 530d.

Have a general question on Sentry mode for those that have Tesla's already. How often do you actually use it ? Been reading that when it is on it will consume 1% of battery every 2 to 3 hours so fairly heavy on the battery.

Can you adjust the sensitivity of it or is it all or nothing ? I'm thinking it's something you'd only turn on when parked for an hour or two in public car parks ?

My approach to sentry has been as follows:

I have it set to be inactive when I am parked at home and at work (setting on screen).

    After that, it is active.

I was away for a week and parked at airport and I turned it off as I did not want to drain battery a lot over a week.
