I recently swapped out a old pump ( pulled 90w) and replaced it with a new one that tops out at 30w when running flat out, both 5m head pumps. Also wanted one that could run in Proportional pressure mode.. so as the radiators turn off as the rooms get up to temperature, the pump slows down.

I wouldnt be surprised if they were just set to 100% and running as needed. There is a lot of nuance to heating systems.

What about just turning off everything and then go trip switch by trip switch to find the vampire 100w per hour? A house alarm would have a small draw. Ours is hidden in a press so I kinda even forgot it was another electrical device on 24x7.

I turn off everything at night bar fridge and freezer and alarm. Just a force of habit from my folks. Even the router is on a timer so it goes off and starts up again before we get up (I know those with HA need it and the computer that drives it on). And I've stuff on timers to start over night for load shifting.

If you are using an Owl how many mains powered smoke detectors do you have in the house? I don't know why but when I used an Owl and another brand of monitor with CT clamp the smoke detectors would read multiples of their actual power usage.

I cant remember the exact figures but if I powered them down in the consumer unit the Owl reading would drop by 100 watts or so.

You likely have a poor power factor. The Owl CT measures apparent power (VA), but (as a domestic customer) you're billed in active power (W).

I don't have an Owl, but I previously had a Geo Minim+ which allowed you to add a correction factor to account for power factor.

You should try to correct the poor power factor if you can as it costs money/energy to transmit that reactive power to you.

I was going to buy a geo minim + but it says on their site it's not suitable for homes with solar. Why is that?

I have solar and the Solis app but it only shows the power I'm generating, can't see what I'm consuming. Would love something that can show both in one app

If you have a standard CT clamp it wont know which way the power is going. The Geo would read the export power as incoming also.

But the Geo that reads the LED flashes on the meter instead of the CT clamp version will work with solar. Just shows 0w if your exporting. But different meters might react differently to this.
