Apart from training jerseys, when was the last time we had a white jersey?

I guess you're right, we haven't actually had one since the 2014-16 era.

We did have quite a few in the 2000's though which I must have been thinking of: https://museumofjerseys.com/2017/08/04/ireland-rugby-jersey-history-1987-2017/

Dunno about Ireland wearing that colour vs the boks. If Ireland win, all the post match talk would be about white supremacy. Awkward.

Well that took and odd departure. I sometimes wonder about how your mind works.

Awful start for Fiji but back in it. Their kicker is terrible so that won't help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Fiji look very powerful. Winning a lot of collisions against Scotland so far. They'd be ahead if they had a decent goalkicker. Ireland plays them next week. Think we'll need to select a fairly strong side for that game.

Also, the Scottish commentary didn't mention it, but I felt Hogg was brushed away far too easy when he was trying to make his tackle.

    Scotland really are criminally indisciplined.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 742 ✭✭✭phily2002

And they take the lead. Yeah they are so powerful physically, some big carries and tackles they're putting in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 742 ✭✭✭phily2002

And now they have a kicker, good game this

Good to see the yellow given even after the try is scored.

Scotland's discipline over the last two fixtures has been very poor. They're trying to get off the line and make a big hit, but constantly going to early and getting pinged for offside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Another offside penalty conceded by Scotland. Just because Hogg was yellowed a few minutes ago shouldn't mean their referee warning resets.

    Scotland very lucky there.

For as much as Fiji have developed an impressive scrum, they've no line out cohesion at all.

Also playing really deep - I get they want to setup big collisions but a better organised team than Scotland will snuff that out. Scotland are one Josh VDF away from tormenting Fiji behind the gainline. I think they'll manage a lot better in the second half.

Lucky try for Ali Price there... all the Fijian backline weere moving in the other direction.....

    great game this...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Can't say Scotland deserves to be ahead, but Fiji have a dreadful kicking game and no lineout. Collision dominance can get you very far, but if you can't convert into points it's useless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Also, poor Darcy Graham has been mullered in the tackle at least three times now. These Fijian backs are all at least three stone heavier than him.

Fiji/Samoa/Tonga always look and are physically strong but that's as good as it gets for them. Good for about an hour against an Italy or Scotland or an Ireland/England/Wales A team; less after an inevitable red card or two for foul play. As a credible force they have lost the way in the professional era and are generally a good decade behind the rest of the rugby world in terms of tactics, skills and laws. At times you'd wonder if they coach their national teams at all for they seem to play a form of Union that is closer to League.

Certainly professionalism has hurt them. Tourists almost never reach their islands any more while rare is a November when one or other of their nations run out of fund to pay their way. The recent addition of Moana Pasifika to Super Rugby may help a little and Vern Cotter will undoubtedly help too but things like this take a long time and patience is needed here; please God they will see this.

What would be fun would be an international standard game to be played and refereed under Pacific law interpretations or Rapid Rugby amendment; see how long we would last then 😁

How will the Irish ever match up to the south African power game? We just don't produce the big men!!!

Evan Roos dropped by the sharks for being too small. Would that picture make him 21?

    Jaysus.

Hastings murdered in the tackle. Has to be subbed off due to the impact.

Adam Hastings should not play on here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Hogg's having a very poor game. Not kicked well; didn't do enough when preventing a Fiji try; didn't draw the Fijian tackler before passing to Graham.

Scotland have been poor. They're winning by the relative strength of their set piece. Fiji infringe at the maul constantly.

But their attack hasn't worked out to any degree. Haven't been able to manipulate their way around the defence at all.
