Laptop screen nits

    Anyone know of an accurate way to calculate the "nits" value of a laptop screen without using a light-meter?

    Reviews vary wildly in their nit estimates - one will say 290 and another will tell you it's 40 - for the same laptop.

    Nits are candelas per square meter. You could measure the brightness against a reference like a phone screen where the brightness is published. Is there a reason you don’t trust the published value?

    Unless you care about HDR content where you’ll need over 1000 nits I wouldn’t worry.

    Why do you want to measure it.

    They might screens from different manufacturers in the same laptop model. So they won't be all exactly the same.

    The higher end laptop generally have brighter screens which is useful if you work in bright environment or outside.
