Certifying New build without ESB connected

    Basically: is it possible to certify/test a new build without the ESB being connected. Can a generator be used?

    No all you'd have is pre-connections tests on the fixed wiring (cables)

    Post connection tests to complete the cert are done with an ESB supply

    Portable Gennys hooked up to installations are an unknown quantity as far as I can see re RCDs and trip times

    The bigger TNS generators you'd be able to get proper readings I'd say matching ESBN

    It is the earth fault loop impedance will be different when connected to the ESB supply due to a different Ze value.
