Anyone trying to purchase a new vehicle recently?

Talking with Toyota, ford and izuzu dealers this morning. Supply seems to be none existent.

Absolute best case scenario was with toyota, for April delivery next year but they're not taking any orders as it's so uncertain. Others were hoping for late summer.

Is it just supply is being diverted to Europe/UK at the expense of Ireland or is the whole system just collapsing?

Anyone I know that has bought cars / jeeps in the last 12 months has had 6 month waits, unless something was in stock, which was rare enough. Sister bought one of three diesel kodiaqs in kerry earlier in the year, other 2 went to limerick and roscommon. Good share of petrol stock of that sized machine around but little demand.

Similar with a contractor waiting 6 months for something as innocuous as a front mower.

Second hand stuff gone mad. 2017 jeep same money now as it was new to buy then, same model 15k dearer new today so I'm told.

Looking around for loading shovels and money seems crazy even for 20 Yr old yokes

Was in Land Rover Yesterday.... waiting times for an order 18 months to 2 years. Crazy!

Mind you they wanted to purchase my car for much more than I had paid for it, 18months old...mad or what?

I was in with Land Rover last week of July, new Defender was 14-16 months / Range Rovers were 8 -12 months.

Put a deposit on new Defender expecting it to be a 2024 reg, got an email a few weeks ago, need to confirm as its now looking like it'll be ready by end of January 2023.

When your business depends on a vehicle what choice have you? Spend your money on depreciation and reliability or repairs and wasted time...

Same with machinery. Currently changing a few implements in the yard now for fear of getting replacements. No choice really

Im not telling the OP to do anything....its just great to have the complaint that you cant get a brand new vehicle because its not there rather than not being able to afford it!

It's not a case of being able to afford it. It's a case It's needed and in alot of cases this weather new is cheaper than secondhand with finance offers

If the OP is in a position to buy a new vehicle good for them.

They're hardly any more representative of the general farming community though than the 39,000 new car registrations in Dublin in 2022 are of everyone there.

Have bought plenty of new stuff over the years but I'd hate to be buying nowadays when a dealer doesn't really care if you deal or not because there's such a waiting time

Had a big job to do on the hilux over a year ago, priced a new one while she was in the doe. New hilux without any add ons was 38 inc vat, so.prob 45 a few decent add ons. My jeep was worth 7k.at the time, only reason I didnt trade was bringing in the cows I'd wreck her. But I thought it was good value at the time. Say their big money now

A reasonably speced crew cab 2.8 lt was over 60k a couple of months back. Lads are going to appreciate what they have a little more for a while yet. Crazy waiting times to order them.
