These payoffs are completely wrong and need to be structured better to suit the club somehow. An underperforming manager should not be able to hold a struggling club to ransom.

Naturally the club is to blame for offering the length of contract they did but it's shocking that managers not delivering results, are able to dig their heels in and bleed the club dry.

From a performance POV, both Gerrard and Rodgers get an annual salary with many bonuses built in, they should not be rewarded for consistently underperforming. Failure should not be compensated into the millions.

Not sure if there's a solution as clubs will always find a work around but this is just one reason why merchandise and match tickets are so expensive, to reward failure.

You could write termination agreements into their contracts but then you are gonna not get the best managers to join your club.

End of the day it's a job and you can't just sack people without compensation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,474 ✭✭✭Esse85

    Yes you can.

People get fired every day in all walks of life for under performance and no compensation is given.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

You would as I said have to write it into the contract that if you don't achieve x or y. Under performance isnt an easy thing to prove to the point it's a stackable offence.

Yes I know it happens in real life but even then contracts have fulfilled with things like gardening leave but we are talking about people who can afford very expensive layers.

Forest's fiendish plan to bore their way to survival looks like it might just come off.

Eoin McDevitt's socks were the most eye-catching thing on Premier this evening...

Kante becomes the latest player to miss the world cup through injury.

I wonder how many players will decide to take it easy for the next few weeks because they don't want to risk missing the world cup.

“Ongoing exchange of values between Newcastle United and its owner mysteriously continues to flow only in one direction”

Line from The Guardian…..PL owners test is not for purpose.

Jurgen Klopp takes legal action over xenophobia claims

Liverpool coach denies claims of slurs against City owners, saying comments about rivals’ wealth were ‘misunderstood’

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

City briefed media using that term but then were to cowardly to go record and say it themselves.

What a state for the Premier League….operating in a modern, liberal democracy and allowing one of your clubs to be owned by people like that. It must be hard for these owners to have to hear people using a free press to speak the truth, they probably prefer things they way they are back in their own country and countries like them….where people can just be arrested and locked up, and worse, for saying what they think.

Klopp was 100% right last Friday and they can’t stand it. And Pep knows it takes away from his achievements.

Accusing someone of Xenophobia because the made some financial fair play claims about their side..... welcome to 2022!!

Fair play to Klopp, I hope he doesn’t back down on this. Finally a really high profile footballing personality with some balls saying it exactly how it is.

When you see FIFA (the lads sponcored by Gasprom, with world cups in Russia and quatar) opening an enquiry into the Irish girls listening to songs , it really does seem completely disproportionate when these tainted money Arab clubs are allowed to sportswash unhindered. They don’t get enough grief for me, as such it’s normalised.

Look at how sky sports reacted to possibly losing tv rights to a super league. When it might affect them it’s an issue, when they have the rights to the EPL they protect the product at all costs. It’s pathetic in the same way that Roman was allowed to sportswash Chelsea for nearly two decades.

Is that why he was called Xenophobia ?? what a crazy place we inhabit, snowflakes wouldn't cover this level of ridiculousness , if that is the reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,877 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Because the easiest way to shut down the talk of sportswashing & sick chanting by their fans is to accuse the other party and deflect attention and put it back on Klopp.

The scary thing is that Klopp is often painted as the party in the wrong in these issues. Tribalism at it's finest.

as a neurtal I like both Pep and Klopp, both great for the game, both emotional - but for the City chiefs to claim Xenophobia for above , is ridiculous.

A German chap working for an English club who on Sunday started 3 English men, 3 Brazilians, 1 Dutch , 1 Scot, 1 Egyptian & 1 Portuguese's chap is Xenophobic , not to mention the Uruguayan & Greek he brought on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

For City chiefs to claim any sort of phobia when they should never pass a "fit and proper person" test based on their own phobias is laughable.

Penalty all day long, easy decision.

    Wreckless from Gomez.

Klopp furoiously biting his tongue over this pen...

Spurs are quite dull. Some bend on that from Antony….

Amazon will hardly be overjoyed with the 'product' so far this week. Flicking round between the games and nothing is enticing me to stay put...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Spurs back 3 are passing the ball so slowly and staying so deep while doing it its giving them absolutely no chance to build an attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,189 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Spurs so poor what are these tactics, they got the ball forward once in the 2nd half and nearly scored.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,758 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

There's nearly always one team every year who's form doesn't justify the position they're in and Spurs are that team this season! They have been scraping wins by been frankly awful in some games but tonight they have been caught out...UTD could easily have 5 past them so far!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,921 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

There was a 4-1 away at City early in his reign that showed me Klopp was the right man and going to get it right.

This feels like that sort of performance from Ten Hag's Utd.

I'm not saying it'll get that good, and I hope not, but this second half has been an exhibition of what he would want his team to look like.

First half was even better. Best full game performance from us under ETH so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,474 ✭✭✭Esse85

Ronaldo being respected again by not being brought on for the remaining minutes 😂

On a serious note, Spurs have been pitiful.

Shaw has been excellent since getting back in the side, great attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Heard earlier Conte has never not lost at Old Trafford as a manager. Very poor record of correct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Someone's just walked down the tunnel on the 89th minute to try steal the headlines tomorrow morning

Ten Hagg is justified not picking him tonight with the result

Utd decent from what I saw of the second half. But Spurs…..if they don’t go ahead they are in trouble. Relying on counter attacking football is not what’s expected anymore….
