Yes but if they are training full time with their province. That means they would be training through the day and again at nights with their teams. Not that they couldn’t manage that I’m sure but it wouldn’t be very sustainable over the course of a season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭good_afternoon

I don't think there's an issue with a prize like that if its sponsored by some crowd then and there are only maybe 9 of them... Im not sure.

A young whipping boys college team they certainly are not. Assume you were at YM v GOWEN. Butler supposed to have been excellent. YM scrum strong.

Shannon were missing a handful apparently

  • Registered Users Posts: 379 ✭✭Lucas44

They train with their provinces and once with their clubs usually on a Thursday or Friday for the team run. Which is nothing hectic. Been the way it’s been for years

Only 1 game tonight Nenagh v Cashel in 2A

Both sides have had good strong starts to season in Munster cups as well as AIL. Hard to call as ever with a derby game even though Cashel generally have had upper hand since they joined Nenagh in senior ranks

Tomorrow Blackrock v Crescent, Barnhall v Queens, Navan v Dolphin, Bohs v Ballymena

Barnhall Queens will also be another top level game. as its 4th hosting 1st. Queens have scored over 100 points in their 2 games to date and look very hard to stop. Away win.

Ballymena have long trip to Limerick but should come away with win against Bohs who havent started well.

Blackrock have moved between divisions a fair bit in recent years and should have enough against Crescent

If Dolphin can tighten up their defence they could get something up in Navan but not sure they will do enough to get the win

    2B

Belfast Harlequins v Galwegians, Dungannon v Wanderers, Corinthians v Greystones, Malahide v Enniscorty, Sligo v Rainey

Tie of weekend is Greystones trip to Galway. First hosting second. Sligo w

Belfast Harlequins will be hopeful of a tight game in Galway as they will look to jump ahead of both as they host the struggling Galwegians.

Malahide should have the edge over Enniscorthy

Dungannon and Wanderers are leading the pack chasing the 3 undefeated sides and i think the hosts should have enough to get win here.

Sligo should have enough to beat Rainey in Strandhill

    2C

Bruff v Skerries, Clonmel v Tullamore, Instonians v Bangor, Midleton v Omagh, Sundays Well v Ballina

1st also host 2nd in 2C with Instonians hosting Bangor. The 3 Ulster sides in the division have all started strongly and Instonians on there return to senior ranks have been very impressive. toughest test to date but home advantage may swing it.

Long trip to Musgrave for Ballina and already 2 weeks in a very important tie at the bottom. loser could be cut slightly off from the rest. Home advantage may swing it here as well.

There is an Adam Byrne on the bench for UCD this weekend.

Before I jump to any conclusions as it's a pretty common name... is that the Adam Byrne we're thinking of?

    Surprised he's been named

Very odd to see an Irish international line up in the AIL and this weekend there is at least 2 with Sean O'Brien.

I think it will be good for him to get some rugby under his belt as he hasn't featured yet for Connacht.

Harry Byrne was supposed to play last weekend against Tarf... but then he got injured in the warm-up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

I presume reports are correct that Harry Byrne didn't feature for Lansdowne. I'm pretty sure he was named in the team again. Did he pull up in the warm up again.

My mistake. He was mentioned in the IRFU preview as but not named by Lansdowne itself.

I watched the 'tarf game on a live stream.

3-0 at half time to 'hinch but an absolutely drab affair. A big wind at 'hinch's back, 3 points never looked like it would be enough.

'tarfs scrum started ascertaining dominance in the second half but it never looked like 'tarf was going to threaten a try bonus point. However, an intercept try and a long ranger on the back of a turnover with the last play of the game meant 'tarf left with maximum points.

was hastie at 10.... tector was/could have been the back up 10 on the bench but they put im in centre when he came on. jesus doesnt get any easy for us with cookies and nure the next two games and not a win to our name yet.

be great to see buccs back up in 1a next season if they can get it..... been a few seasons since ail top flight had a team from each province

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Banbridge had to play their match vs UCC 'behind closed doors' on Saturday due to IRFU directive after verbally abusive behaviour of some of their supporters in game away to Malone the previous week.

I think this is a first in club rugby in Ireland.

Hopefully it will be the last.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭luke9311

heard about that on the club scene pod but was only half listening tbh..... what exactly happened? one of the sides supporters verbally abusing the ref or the othe side throughout the entire game or what?

  • Registered Users Posts: 308 ✭✭RuPi

A lot of different stories doing the rounds but i think Malone scored a controversial late try to win it and Banbridge supporters reacted, Bann have banned both supporters for the rest of the season. A Banbridge player also got a red card in the incident and received a 8 week ban. Not sure what exactly was said to the officials.

ah ok i didnt know the details ins and outs of what actually happended...... if thats the case that will hurt the clubs abit this season it terms of cash coming into the club with people paying into games on match day etc etc

gonna miss it unfortunately stuck in work on the late shift. Be interesting how close the teams will be if they are... i.e. if the game will be as close to the leinster cup in the preseason or not and if lansdowne can follow up with last weeks win...

Well done Terenure. We hung in for a while but I think Terenure were well deserving of their win

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Thanks Stainalert, I thought it was pure 50/50 for the first half. Your first try was a peach but we just got on top of you in the tight 5 and had more off the bench. Scoreline flattered us a bit but think we did deserve to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭luke9311

couldnt make the game unfortunately as i was in work otherwise i would have been there to support our seniors.... think o'neills break against us was a great break in the lead up to that try.... as for the game think the experience of your make was the difference tbh. As for the highlight of the weekend i think tarf get a nodd, thank comeback showed how good a side they are and i think they will carve it up in 1a this year personally...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Great comeback by 'tarf but definitely got a bit of luck as it was not close to a straight throw into the lineout with that last score.

The 'tarf 'Nure game in a few weeks is a mouthwatering prospect!

Any of the bookmakers taking odds on the AIL this year? I couldn't find it with a google search, but then maybe they just do it come playoff time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,151 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

The club scene podcast guys keep mentioning Fitzwilliam sports for odds. Don't know about main stream bookies

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Was a fantastic comeback from Tarf, but dont know on carve up. They could well win it of course, but it wasn't like they won by miles in the AIL final and we have gotten stronger too. This season we've beaten Lansdowne, and away, by more than they did at home

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Boyle Sports offer odds, but no handicap just straight betting so the odds are bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭luke9311

yeah was thinking the same when i caught the live stream that throw did look crucked throw.... but it does show that when they come together and click they really do click and can grind out a result. fitzwilliam sports have odds up its frozen now but think the odds are tossed up between nure and tarf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭luke9311

well yeah thats a fare point.... nure and a tarf fixture will be close but think both teams will run away with wins against most sides in the league this year personally in regular fixtures (wont say much yet till we get to play offs). u werent far off tbf to u in the final last year
