I paid my 4 euro on the 2nd of September hoping to have it for Christmas and it arrived in the door today! Mad how they flew through almost the whole backlog in just over a month.

Wasn't expecting it to come so soon so have to wait until Friday for the sd card to arrive. Is it alright to set it up with no sd card or is it better to wait to avoid having to move games/folders.

Also seen some screen protectors posted in the thread. Do these work for the 512gb Deck with the different glass ? Looking through Amazon reviews and some say they don't but others say they do.

Just checked it there and it arrived in Ireland around 6. So hoping it’s delivered tomorrow

Was your last update before it hit Ireland "The parcel has left the parcel center - Netherlands"? and before that it was in Utrecht?

Is you're not replacing the SSD then go ahead before you get the SD card, the SD card is just going to provide extra storage for games. If you got the 64GB Steam Deck you might want to move shaders etc. to the SD card.

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Yep it was in Utrecht then again moved in Holland. Moved then to Ireland and this morning it moved again in Ireland so I’d expect it today I’ll let you know if it arrives 🤞🏻

Fire away without the SD card. It just gives extra storage space.

On the protector, you don't need the antiglare as it's built in but I still put screen protectors on everything. It won't get the same wear and tear your phone does in your pocket but it still picks up a few scratches.

I'd much rather spend 20 on the protector than get a scratch.

Any news on the official steam deck dock? Can't imagine it will do anymore then what a 3rd party will already do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭robfowler78

Mine still sitting in second Ireland hub since 5:50am so don’t think I’ll be receiving it today. Usually the GLS tracker changed to out for delivery so tomorrow I guess.

update just arrived there unexpectedly still showing in Dublin on GLS site but here now 😃😃

That is pretty great going. 1-2 weeks lead time.

I'm not sure I need the dock. I do have a stand and a USB C hub that does the job but let's see again on payday 😂

Wow 100 blips for a dock! Think I will go 3rd party instead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭Mucashinto

Yeah, considering what amazing value the Deck is the Dock jars a little. I'll wait for reviews I think to see if this is noticeably better than the cheaper alternatives. Something about that nice round figure of 100e that suggests there's a bit of a mark-up there imo but still, tempting alright...(I don't mean to begrudge Valve a few quid but they're meant to be loaded right!?)

I got a regular USB-C passthrough and a bog standard dock to sit the deck into. About 30 quid, far better value. Though to be honest the only time I've actually used it was when I needed to do something in desktop mode with a keyboard.

Edit: This hub works perfectly if anyone is looking, and also works with my laptop, phone etc... https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B08SM393WB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Dock has gone up a bit, but perfectly serviceable https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B09YTQ1DY8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ordered the official dock, I have a dongle that works perfectly well but I have recently decided to put the steam deck into my AV rack as my go-to retro console. I got it mostly for the piece of mind in that it will always be compatible with any updates they add to the docked experience. Also what with it being a permanent fixture in the unit, I want the dock that is best designed for it. The extra official charger put it over the edge for me, that is a nice extra.

So getting the smallest one with an SD card seems like the best way to go?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭Lord Spence

I had heard of some issues with the 64gb one, something about some system files that run out of space or something like that and would not save to SD card, maybe that has been resolved now or maybe I am dreaming here but defo remember reading something about it either on this forum or somewhere else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

No that was mentioned a few times here by me, it is a real problem that Valve needs to fix but in the meantime there is a very easy workaround that Imimmfn explained to me on the last page or two. I would still recommend getting the 256 gig at the very least though.

Ordered the official dock too, pretty sure I have a few usb c hubs that would do most of the same job but feck it.

My 512GB ssd just turned up so installing that will be tonight's job. Might see about that batocera thing over the wkend on the second sd card too. So far though I'm pretty impressed, feels like a quality piece of kit in your hand, bags of potential. I don't mind having to tinker about to get things working either - super easy to download a controller layout for games that need it. Ironically, Elden Ring took 3 attempts for it to load properly for me, have uninstalled it now anyway as it was just a test case to see what it was like.

Watched a few vidoes on how to setup Origin and Epic etc, a bit cumbersome but at least it's a one time thing. Reckon I'll hook up a mouse and keyboard when doing that kind of thing.

Considering the 64gb deck myself. What do I need to ensure I don’t run into issues with shader cache etc. is it a big sd card or a bigger ssd for it.

Also does the fact mw2 is coming to steam mean it might run natively on steam os by any chance? Would the deck be capable of even running it at medium to low settings do ye think.

If you can afford the 256GB, I think it’s worth going for the little extra (unless you’re confident enough to play around and install a new SSD). It gives you that bit more space to play around. SD card upgrade is absolutely fine, don’t get me wrong! But it’s just that little extra piece of mind having a generous bit of system memory to play around with. The 256GB is a nice middle ground IMO. But it is over €100 more expensive, so very understandable that the 64gb one might be more affordable too.

If the deck doesn't arrive into Ireland today, I presume there is no chance of getting it Monday because GLS do nothing over the weekend so Monday will be the earliest it could arrive with delivery Tuesday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

Again would recommend the 256 gig model at the least, I regret not getting that one myself. If you are getting the 64 gig model then I would recommend a 512 gig SD card at a minimum

My Deck has arrived in Ireland. Hopefully have it by Tuesday. I'll take any day except Wednesday really, it's the one day I have to go in to work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,793 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

Mine also just in Ireland this evening. My birthday next Wednesday so the timing is pretty much spot on

Yeah friend's deck arrived in Ireland as well. GLS must be as bad as people say if they don't get them delivered on Monday. Arriving into the country on Friday evening there should be no excuse to not have them out for delivery on Monday.

Mine also arrived into Éire this morning. Here's hoping for Monday!

Check later on this evening. Mine arrived in Ireland around 9PM last Friday, delivered on Monday afternoon

Christ, I didn't even realise something like this would work. Plugged a bog-standard one I have for my MacBook (no power or internet on it) and away it works. Brilliant.

Could basically just get a long usb to hdmi cord and sit back and use the Deck as the controller. Haha, this thing could be bananas, really hope it takes off.
