lol the guilty plea would seem to suggest that in itself wouldnt it

mlmd and dowdall were both part o the sf organized crime group as is clearly evident

you really are trying to defend the indefensible here ,

What exact items are you referring to? How do you know they were deleted?

Were they business partners or not, you said they were, if you're not bullsh1tting tell us what business

The guilty plea would suggest that Jonathan was part of the Hutch gang, are you saying that MLMD was part of the Hutch gang. lol

You didn't answer it and it's a very very simple (important) question - Were they business partners or not, you said they were, if you're not bullsh1tting tell us what business

That should absolutely be a concern.....not smoke and mirrors nonsense about your ill informed interpretations of Google search results.

If you genuinely didn't realise that the same applied for any 'Jonathan Dowdall and ______' searches, I'd be happy to give you the benefit of the doubt that it was just a slightly silly overreaction, but your continued insistence that the redacted Google results imply something sinister in the face of this information, well that's just foolish.

It would certainly make any comments that SF have direct connections to the Hutch gang accurate and remove the defense that their only connections to criminal activity are historic/Troubles related.

Does it mean MLMD is a member of the Hutch gang? Of course not, but it does mean she has a direct connection to it.

MLMD not the only Dublin TD with murky election workers....

"A Sinn Féin member who was found with surveillance details on Dáil politicians has been sentenced to four years in prison for Provisional IRA membership.

35-year-old Niall Binead from Crumlin in Dublin was convicted at the Special Criminal Court along with co-accused Kenneth Donohoe from Tallaght, who also received a four-year jail term.

Binead was described as a branch secretary of Sinn Féin in Dublin's south city. It is understood that he is a friend of TD Aenghus Ó Snodaigh, as well as his election worker.

The court heard that documents found at Binead's home included the names of a number of politicians and Dublin criminals. These included a note that former Justice Ministers the late Jim Mitchell of Fine Gael, PD founder Des O'Malley, and John O'Donoghue of Fianna Fáil were seen drinking in Rathgar.

The court also heard evidence linking Binead and Donohoe to the scene of what was thought to have been a planned hijacking in Bray in October".

Not quite accurate, she once (up to February 2015) had a direct connection with somebody who subsequently (February 2016) facilitated the Hutch gang, there are a lot of dots to be connected there before you start making a direct connection between MLDM/SF and the Hutch gang. It would be a bit like linking senior figures in the GAA to a paedophile just because they belonged to the same organisation and knew and associated with the paedophile as part of their day to day involvement in the GAA, which I presume you would accept would be ludicrous.

I'd be reluctant to believe that the incident in February 2016 was his first involvement with the Hutch gang.....would seem a bit extreme for one's first day on the job.

And pointing out February 2015 isn't ideal given what Dowdall was up to in January 2015....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭notsocutehoor

But you're joining the dots that MLMD knew about Mr Dowdall's activities and was happy enough to go along with them, which would be pretty serious joining of dots

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

Not at all, I was saying that SF and MLMD have a connection to organised crime that can't be hand waved away with, 'The Troubles'. Nothing more, nothing less.

That being said, if MLMD was entirely unaware of the crowds Dowdall was running in, I'd be very surprised considering folk I know with much less SF sway were warning about distancing from him for quite some time before either of the notable incidents.

In exactly the same way as senior figures in the GAA have links to a paedophile, are you saying that this can't be hand waved away either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

If those senior figures were working directly with paedophiles, I'd absolutely describe them as having a connection that can't be hand waved away. I wouldn't say they're guilty by association like some on this thread, but it would be bizarre to say they don't have a connection surely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

I listed where I see their Catholic bias, there are plenty of articles about it if you want to do a search (and I won't be linking any as it just drags the thread into the sectarian nonsense and red is blue posting), all I see is 2 posters denying the reality that SF are a party with roots in religion and with it being a huge part of their identity, even more so in the North. My question (after answering why MLM was asked about mass) is whether they are moving beyond this, but the answer seems to be heads in sand and linking to policies that they would never admit to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,464 ✭✭✭Odhinn

We can't find any that fit your description. Please enlighten us with links to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

I think everyone would be saying that such a connection couldn't be hand-waved away whether it was within SF or the GAA.

Seriously, that is a really weird and very bad attempt at a deflection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

More deflecting, and who is we? (I thought we were over the collusion on this thread) I've given you my reasoning and not going to drown the thread with links to sectarian violence as that has been done enough, if you can't use google, I would suggest a visit to the library, the history and current affairs section.

Are SF predominantly a Catholic based organisation that has been and is hostile to other religions? Why is that the case?

It's a perfectly legitimate question to ask what Mary Lou McDonald knew of Jonathan Dowdall's activities.

He was a member of SF until February 2015, which is (if I'm not mistaken) around the time the waterboarding incident happened, where he was caught on a recording saying he was a member of the IRA. That recording was found pretty much by accident by Gardai searching his house in relation to the Regency. Mental.

When he stepped down as a Dublin City Councillor in 2014, he said there were SF activists in the North Inner City cumann who had 'spread rumours' about him. I'm pretty sure that's Mary Lou's local cumann. What were those rumours? Did she know anything about them? If they're bad and she knew, why did she praise him amid him stepping down as a Cllr? All very legitimate questions to ask of her. This wasn't some no-mark activist down the country, this was an elected public representative in her own patch.

Someone used the GAA comparison. Assuming they're talking about today's story, I'd be asking the same questions of those in the higher ups of Crossmaglen Rangers, or those who used to be. It's very hard to keep something like that quiet in a small parish-based community. Rumours spread, and more often than not there's no smoke without fire. I wouldn't believe for one second that there was no suspicion of what that man was up to, considering how many children/young men it impacted over 30 years.

To be blunt, the only one deflecting here is you. You made a claim, without any evidence, and have ignored any and all requests for evidence. If these "catholic policys" exist, why can't you just do the decent and easy thing and link them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

I've said they're un-linkable multiple posts ago because they won't be listed, you're ratholing on something I have said is not possible to provide (well, without dragging the thread gutter-ward). You can of course freely continue down this path or engage on why or why isn't there a Catholic bias in SF and whether it's something they are (hopefully) moving away on as I said also in one of my first posts on the mass subject. There is no deflection, there is no running away, there is an unwillingness here to engage in the sectarian nonsense that blights this thread from time to time that you can probably find someone else to bite for.

Now, do you believe there a Catholic bias in SF? Why or why not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭notsocutehoor

What about the 'Catholic policies' you mentioned, do they exist or are they a figment of your imagination, if they exist list them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭notsocutehoor

Even though they had no knowledge or suspicion about what was going on? It surely is guilt by association if you think they have a case to answer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

    Are you stuck on repeat?

Do you think SF have a Catholic bias? Why/Why not? If they do, are they moving on from it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭notsocutehoor

Why do you find it so difficult to give examples (even one) of their 'Catholic policies' which you quoted without prompt a few pages ago. You asked me (directly) if SF should move away from their 'Catholic policies' and I replied of course they should, but was unsure what those 'Catholic policies' were, I'm still waiting for them.

Edit: And while I'm waiting for any example of those 'Catholic policies' I'll answer your latest question to me - Do you think SF have a Catholic bias? - no I don't. No more answers now until I see some examples of the 'Catholic policies'

An internal 'justice' system for dealing with child sex offenders - perhaps not a common policy per se, but its certainly an example of shared ethos between SF and the Catholic church

Are you really suggesting that it only took a year for Dowdall to be trusted enough by the Hutch gang to book the room and be involved in the murder? Seriously?

    You are stretching credibility here.
