No harm in trying, but guessing here they won't do it with private ducting.

Good luck with your connection tomorrow, hope it works out for you, post an update.

If it's deep and currently open then just use a standard sewage AJ and then risers to get it up to ground level. This is a very easy to do yourself with a shovel and all bits available from builders providers.

By the sounds of it you are eager to make it as easy as possible for them, so I would do something if I were you to avoid any complications. I have a freind who works for KN and he said they get paid per install. So if they arrive and see complications they may find an excuse to move onto the next install .

Was anyone else waiting more than 24 hours to be connected? Everything fine on our end and pure telecoms end, waiting on nbi. I rang nbi this evening and they told me to ask pure telecom to escalate it with them so will do that in the morning. ONT and modem are both working fine but no internet.

I'm waiting since the 4/8 for NBI to fix a line fault!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

That’s insane! How did they figure out it was a fault on the line? Is your ONT working? To think I thought it would be so easy and that we’d have it up and running on installation day…

Had a flashing pon light on ont initially , its now showing as a red fault light. Have lodged a complaint with Comreg. But still no luck getting NBI to fix the fault.

Do you know if any of your neighbours are affected too? It seems once they’ve done the basics of what they’re supposed to do they don’t want to hear if anything goes wrong. My ONT and modem are working, even the nbi agent was stumped as to why it hadn’t gone live yet.

Yeah next door neighbour was installed about 4 weeks later and he's not working either. Find it funny that they are continuing to install people knowing there is an issue on the line.

I'd be getting on to Pure and quoting them on the numbers from pages 9,10,11, and 12. They're meant to have NBI fix issues within 10 days of being notified from what I can see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭davpower

I quoted those figures to service provider but to no avail. Also, I asked Comreg and they don't regulate NBI only the service providers, so they can't ensure that NBI maintains the SLA. I've now asked my local TD to ask NBI directly when the issue will be fixed because nobody else seems to be able to get an answer from them.

Maybe worth calling them out on Twitter as well (if you have an account) ? Spin up a message about how long you've had the issue and @NatBroadbandIrl and whoever your ISP is in the same message

Coming up on 48 hours since installation now and still being given the run around. Pure telecom say that nbi need to provision the line. When I get onto nbi they say that the line has been provisioned and pure telecom need to provision it on their end so I ring back pure telecom and they say they are waiting to hear back from nbi and on and on it goes.

Genuinely sorry to hear that. I've been there and done that with Pure a couple of years ago.

    See here...

Install went perfect. Up and running now and all looks AOK. The two KN lads were dead sound and I can’t complain at all. No answer on the manhole request so I’ll have to wait and see.

I would definitely advise anyone who knows where their ducting is to try and check that it’s ok and no breaks etc in advance of their install. Having this done made my install an absolute piece of cake.

Was just on to pure again and it seems to be an issue with nbi and the way they did the order. Nbi and the kn group messed up the installation dates, they never came on the day they were supposed to and never called to cancel and rearrange so they ended up giving us a last minute date where they rang the night before the new installation date to confirm and to pure it looks like we’re still waiting on an installation date even though everything is up and running. Nothing going to happen over the weekend but hopefully will have it sorted early next week.

i tried that too, they ask you to DM them and when you do they say contact the service provider. Its 7 weeks today since I was installed and still no broadband

Currently have it on the ground with no obstructions according to the app and so far the gaming experience has been middling. I do have a mount for it but don't really want to mount it up high until I decide whether I'm keeping it or not. Ping fluctuations and packet loss have been the main issues so far and complete disconnects from games have also occurred. I know you say that increasing height improved your connection but I'm trying to get an idea before drilling holes and attaching brackets to the side of the house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭SW98

Yeah I wouldn't be recommending it to anyone who is anyways competitive but for me it's a dilemma. I either stick with my slow FTTC conection or change to Starlink. The FTTC has good and consistent ping but can lag when others in the house go on Netflix for example. The other issue is streaming, a lot of competitive tournaments require players to stream and I can't do that with my FTTC conection. Starlink would eliminate those two problems at the expense of high ping and consistency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭SW98

When I'm referring to ping I'm talking in-game ping and so far, the best ping I've seen in-game with Starlink is double the best ping I get with the 14Mbps FTTC conection. 19ms is the best ping I can get on Call of Duty Vanguard, London server with my FTTC connection. If Starlink was consistent at that ping then it would be different but inconsistency is the issue.

You cannot fully test any network connection over wireless, wireless is a shared medium, all your devices share and take turns using the frequency, connect using ethernet with wireless disabled and see how it goes.

Same happened with my install , took 5 days to sort out , mine was with Eir and it just was not updating on their system , every day hours on the phone , my initial install date from KN was changed to an earlier date and went live close to the initial install date .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

It’s so frustrating as everything is installed and working yet no internet connection! It will be five days tomorrow so hopefully it will get sorted, pure have been in touch with both nbi and their liaison officer. When the technician tested the speeds on his modem he was only getting speeds of 550mb so hopefully that’s not another problem as I have 1gb ordered. The kn technician said 3 out of 5 fritzbox’s aren’t working when he’s finished installing which doesn’t sound right at all…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭SW98

Never mentioned it but it is wired via an Asus gaming router with prioritization enabled for my gaming PC.

What's the general lead time when you place order after NBI website go ready to connect at your address, do KN align with your choosen ISP?

Sorry I thought you posted last week that you hadn't tried wired.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

Finally sorted thanks to pure telecom after a mistake made by nbi. Unfortunately only getting 550mb download when we ordered 1gb. I tried to convince the technician that we had ordered 1gb but he said because his own modem was showing a green light at 550mb that we were getting what we had ordered. Very happy with pure, not so much with nbi/kn group at the moment and hopefully won’t take them too long to get it sorted.

NBI seem to be a bit of a mess at the minute. After 53 days with a fault since install, got a call this morning that fault was fixed and they were sending out an engineer to complete the install. Long story short, fault still the same and installer had to go away again. Hopefully not waiting another 53 days to attempt a fix again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Agent Avenger

I can’t imagine your frustration, at least we still have 550mb while waiting this time. NBI/kn remind me of eir, all good when everything is working but any problems and you quickly find out how hopeless they are to deal with. I wonder what will happen with the storms over the winter months when the lines get taken out by trees, how long will they take to fix?

FWIW European Legislation from 2018 requiring ComReg to do geographical surveys of broadband availability has recently been transposed into an Irish regulation.

    https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2022/si/444/made/en/print

    Article 100.

     (1) The Regulator shall conduct a geographical survey of the reach of electronic communications networks capable of delivering broadband (“broadband networks”) by 21 December 2023 and shall update it at least every three years thereafter.

    (2) The geographical survey shall include a survey of the current geographic reach of broadband networks, as required for the tasks of the Regulator and the Minister under these Regulations and for the surveys required for the application of State aid rules.

    .

    .

    (13) If the relevant information is not available on the market, the Regulator shall make data from the geographical surveys which are not subject to commercial confidentiality directly accessible in accordance with the European Union (Open Data and Re-use of Public Sector Information) Regulations 2021 (S.I. No. 376 of 2021) to allow for its reuse. The Regulator shall also, where such tools are not available on the market, make available information tools enabling end-users to determine the availability of connectivity in different areas, with a level of detail which is useful to support their choice of operator or service provider.
