Trip up the m1 in the dark this evening. Observations:

Autosteer unusable as it activates auto high beam. Yes u can knock it off but shortly after every time auto high beam comes back on

You can use adaptive cruise without auto high beam which is great. However I had 2 bad phantom breaks which really knocked my confidence. 2 cars nearly rear ended me and were well pissed off. Seemed ro be when someone cut in behind me of all times to do it. So I didn't use that even the rest of the journey

Another thing I noted that I was flashed a few times on normal roads with my headlights off as oncoming traffic seemed to think I had my headlights on.

Right so maybe a noob question but I'll ask anyway.

I did a good journey today and took stats after a full charge when I had depleted to 33% battery remaining.

Total energy used was showing as 34kwh.

By my maths that would give a usable battery of 51kw. Am I missing something? I thought usable battery would be about 57.5.

Or will it calibrate better over time and the more I charge to 100%?

I was on the M2 an hour ago. I found the high beams worked well on autopilot. It was a little slow to dip on a couple of occasions, but I was satisfied with it. Needs a bit more testing to give a proper review/opinion.

That energy used is only energy that’s consumed while the car is moving….. so if your stopped for 2 minutes or 2 hours, it won’t be recording that consumption!!!

bit odd, yes it is, but that’s just the way it is!!

Sentry mode uses a lot of energy, can be 10%overnight for me~ 5kwh.

I’ve pulled up at 2 ESB rapid chargers over the past 2 days. Tried to use the L2 charger while the 50kW was in use. Both times it says in the car that only 16A is available here (so around 3kW speed). I would have expected a minimum of 32A available.

I’ve seen 16A limited mentioned on some forums. Anyone else experiencing this? I haven’t installed my home charger yet, so not sure what happens there.

Ignore the amps setting when DC charging as you are not using the cars onboard AC charger hence amps is irrelevant.

it will always display 16a when DC charging, but it’s meaningless.

or if you are talking about the AC charger on these units, they are 3 phase and each phase is limited to 16a….. so 16 x 3 x 230v = 11kW

Yeah I was talking about the AC charger. Feeling a bit stupid now, as hadn’t considered the 3-phase 🤣.

So I should be grand plugging into my home charger when installed, I should get near enough to the 7kW.

Yes, on single phase the car can take 32amps giving 7kW, but on 3 phase, only 16a per phase giving a total of 48a for 11kW (12kW up North as they run at a slightly higher voltage)

Depending on your charger you'll get past 7kW at home, I regularly clock up 7.6kW on the Zappi via oversized PV

It’s worth noting it can use this if it’s busy and activated a lot.

If you in a garden with not slot of activity it won’t use this amount.

I'm heading away on holiday for 2 weeks, would you guys recommend leaving it plugged in and have sentry mode enabled? It'll be sitting in my driveway (no gates) in central Dublin.

I never have had Sentry on when away, but I am semi rural with a camera overlooking front of house. But no reason not to leave plugged in. Alternatively you could set to charge just at night on cheap rate, or start and stop charging from the app when required.

I left mine for 2 weeks and it used 3% and that included one update while I was away and I also checked in multiple times in the first week as it was our heat wave so I was venting the windows I had sentry off as I have gone cctv.

If you normally have sentry on at home then leave it on and plug in and set the charge limit to 80%.

Does the Model 3 charging screen record the total number of kW hrs that it has used over its lifetime?

What do owners here use to track their total charging spend?

Yes. It records it in the trio section.

I don’t actively track the spends but the app does once you set it up.

Id say if you needed it you can install a kWh meter online to your charger or some chargers like the wallbox have it built in.

Something like this? It is an app called Scan my Tesla but you need an adaptor to allow the ODB2 connector.

sort of achievable in the car as well by not resetting one trip counter. I renamed the last one "Do not reset".

With the latest system update which seems to be making a balls of using AP at night with full beams....what is the general thoughts on upgrading? Are people holding off on installing this, in the hope that Tesla will roll this back in the coming weeks? Cos if they don't roll back, are you not then missing out on other updates and how long would you see yourself holding out?

Collecting a new M3 tomorrow and want to see what people's thoughts are on this. TBH, I don't think I'll hold off on installing this, as I wouldn't be comfortable in using AP at night anyway

It's not a big deal. AP works fine. I did 500km in my new model 3 over the weekend including some motorway night AP. To disable auto high beams you just push the light stalk forward. You have to do this now each time you enable AP. Much ado about nothing IMO

Yes. and for clarity it is not like the auto wipers which cannot be turned off of Auto if AP is enabled.

The only annoying part about this new AP version is that the follow distance is restricted to 2, which is too long for motorway. Also if you have AP enabled and floor it to pass someone, once you go above 140 it's disabled for the rest of that trip. Full on disabled too with flashing hazards activated.

My experience is that yes u can disable the auto high beam by pushing the stalk forward but it keeps defaulting back a few seconds later. Others are saying the same. Very strange that yours is acting different. What software version you on?
