If you went for MSM (and why wouldn't you?) then the Aero are a nice match, I took mine off to wax the alloys and straight back on for both looks and efficiency. Other colours then decision time from an appearance perspective. You can buy aftermarket covers if you do not like the Aero styling/looks

I didn't like the look of the Aeros when I saw them around (there's a white M3 I used to see frequently)... So, when my Black M3 arrived I was convinced I was going to ditch them and show off the rims.

But they look good, I feel, with the black. If they add a couple of kms to range then all the better.

Four months later the Aeros are still on.

In the 30 months I've had the car, I've probably had the aero hub caps off for about 4-6 months of that..... I like them, they look very futuristic....

Anytime they ever did come off, they would have went back on if I was going on a trip which required charging in the wild, as they give you about a 3-5% range increase (Tesla claim 3.86%) as opposed to not having them on, and for that reason I just leave them on most of the time... they are also much easier to clean.

Having said that the vast majority of SR+/LR I see with the 18" wheels tend to not have them on, and that's fine, as I really like them off as well.

I really couldn't be more on the fence on them, with perhaps the slight efficiency gain leaning me towards just leaving them on...

Either way it's a nice option to have, take them off in summer, put them on in winter, changes the look of the car. It's worth having the cap kit for when you do want to change them. I've seen other hub caps that fit, but meh, not for me.. aero's or nothing.

When I first got my car I was inclined to leave them off, using the new design trim pieces instead. However have the aero covers on for last few months, have got used to them and actually quite like them. Beware of taking them on and off regularly, they will mark the original alloys.

Also like the slight extra range (is it noticeable? I don't know.)

Wheels easier to clean with covers on.

My small repaired kerb front left rash is not as noticeable with covers on.

I have no preference between the aeros on or off. I also like that the 18s are more comfortable. I happen to really like the 19" sports rims, but choosing 18s with MSM was the better choice for me. I plan to leave the aeros on for the time being rather than get caught up in a tizzy over alloys. Maybe down the line I will consider a change, but thanks for the replies above. Has confirmed my thinking on the rims.

I'm leaving them on. I think they look good. But all about personal taste.

Nice to be able to have the choice anyway.

20 inch dark alloys or nothing 😂😂

Same here, they are part of the Tesla look and fit nicely with the new black accents and black interior. Extra range is a nice bonus too.

Over the 30 months you owned the M3 , did you have to spend much on maintenance? Brakes….etc?

6 new tyres, and that’s it.

edit: oh and a new set of wipers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭bilasy

Can I ask how many KM you do in a year ? As I seldom needed to change tires I usually keep the car for 2-3 years, also apologies if I’m missing something but why 6 tyres not 4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,840 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

don’t have an exact annual mileage figure, but as of now, the car is on 64,915km, and it’ll be exactly 30 months old next week.

we probably did a lot more driving the 1st 2 years as it was a joy to go on trips in the car (our 1st EV), and since I’ve had the car I’ve had free Supercharging (and still do).

regarding tyres, I didn’t bother rotating the tyres to ensure even wear (mine is a RWD SR+), I just replaced the rear tyres at 30,000km. And then just replaced all 4 tyres at 58,000 (my OCD wanted to wait till 60,000km but we had a big Euro road trip coming up so wanted fresh tyres on for it, so changed them the week before we left).

    Anybody tried these…

They look pretty much like the real deal. Only good knock offs I could find available for shipping to Ireland?

Also I just got my trade in valuation from Tesla, and it’s massively less than I could get selling the car myself. Massively. Why does anybody opt for a trade in?

    Thanks.

What version of Model 3 do you have? And if it’s an SR+, do you have the LFP battery?

I presume you do have an LFP is the car told you to go to 100% once a week.

the non LFP batteries should only go to 90% and above for long trips only…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,840 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

    You have an LFP battery.

charge away too 100% as often as you like, but as they say, do it at least once a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,402 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

I'd say it's fairly certain you have the LFP battery (mine's from the same time frame, Dec 2021).

To be sure, when you're in the car, the screen that you set the chrge percentage should have markings at 50% and 100%. I believe the non-LFP ones show "Daily" and "Trip" as the markings.

I'll have to double-check when I'm back in my car but I'm pretty sure with the last few software updates you can see what battery chemistry you have in the "additional vehicle information" window.

Trade in is car dependent. My offer was massively above the private sale price and way about what I bought it for.

It just depends on the market at that time for your particular car.

Stick it in DoneDeal and sell it. But remember, DD prices are asking prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭mc2022B2TF

or get a quote on zucar and autobuy and then go back to both and ask for more - that's what i did. A very easy process.

Will tesla up the offer though?

Remember, all their doing is passing on the beat price received from their third party list of independent dealers.

    from the manual :

    Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries

Some vehicles are equipped with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Battery. To determine if your vehicle has an LFP Battery, navigate to Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information.

If your vehicle is equipped with an LFP Battery, Tesla recommends that you keep your charge limit set to 100%, even for daily use, and that you also fully charge to 100% at least once per week. If Model 3 has been parked for longer than a week, Tesla recommends driving as you normally would and charge to 100% at your earliest convenience.

In addition, a best practice is to allow Model 3 to "sleep" regularly by parking it with Sentry Mode disabled, when possible. Consider using the Exclude Home, Exclude Work, and Exclude Favorites settings to prevent Sentry Mode from automatically activating at locations it is not needed (see Using Sentry Mode).

Following the above guidance maximizes available range and improves the vehicle's ability to accurately determine the state of charge and estimated range.

no but i got an offer from zucar and autobuy and asked autobuy to up their offer - they insisted on seeing the car so i brought it to them and they matched what i was looking for

you could also ring a few dealers and as if they would offer you a cash price

i found zucar gave the best price but i had that up my sleeve when i went to autobuy

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,947 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

yes, that’s different and I agree with you there. I thought you had hoped Tesla would match the offers.

I saw those rims when looking around. Seem like a decent match for a model 3 alright

When I was trading up from my S both Tesla and Zucar came back with the exact same offer, neither upped their offer and I sold for €6k more privately first few days to first to see so there was very little hassle.

On trade ins: My trade in for the X was a phenomenal offer and better than I would expect to get in the private market.

On the wheels, with MSM (The only color!) the aero wheels look good since they dechromed the cars. I wont be taking mine off. I'm already buying the poor man's tesla (standard range RWD 3 on base wheels, I dont need to make it look to all and sundry by taking off the aero caps that I wanted the other wheels but couldnt afford them !)

I have a question from my inner 9 year old self - I heard that the USB ports in the car are no longer data connections, is that correct and if so what does that mean for hooking a game controller up? Do they still work without that data connection and do any controllers work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,840 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I believe since the interior refresh, the only USB plug that's data compatible is the one in the glovebox for Sentry mode. All others are just power points...

..to add, the glovebox needs to be open to use the controller so I simply take the dashcam USB out when "gaming". I didn't look into a splitter as it's a rare event. If you want to listen to music on USB e.g. MP3 or .flac files then you can partition the dashcam USB to have separate folders. Some good tuitions on YouTube on how to do it and once you've done it once that's it
