Just got the result of my CEng interview and I have been unsuccessful "you demonstrated a number of deficits within the competentices of Chartered Engineer". I wont wnge over it because I know it wont change the result.

Does anyone know do I need to go through the whole process again to reapply?

    Hi Fire77,

How did you feel it went? What type of questions did they ask?

Without making any quick fire decisions its probably best to write down what you thought went well, what didn't go well and depending on your findings either consider appealing or reapplying. Chances are the areas you didn't demonstrate strongly in you will need to work on them for the next time - ask yourself how I could improve here, could I have used better examples? I would expect that whoever your assessors were will be looking for improvements in these areas going forward.

Don't they write to you if you didn't pass outlining where you were lacking and giving a recommendation as to when you should reapply?

Same happened with me i.e. didn't get the nod the first time. They would have left you feedback on where you fell short. It was a real blow to me at the time but looking back, I didn't quite meet all the competencies. You will need to re-apply. I left it for a year, built up more experience that specifically focused on the competencies I wasn't meeting, used my original application but then amended it with new experience, re-applied, done the interview and god the nod thankfully.

Take some time out and don't rush straight back into it.

Hi, keeping this thread alive with the 2022 cohort now!

I have my interview this week, and post-covid it's via zoom. I guess it suits the volunteer interviewers to do it remotely, which is fair enough, even if it wouldn't be my own preferred medium.

What I would like to know of anyone who has interviewed via zoom is:- you are allowed to screen share photos/drawings, etc. as visual aides during your ten min presentation. Should this be only sporadic, intertwined with face-to-face video, or do people find themselves talking and scrolling through a powerpoint of relevant visual aides?

I know it's only ten minutes, and the questions after will obviously be face-to-face. I'm just figuring what aides to have prepped in advance.

Also, to anyone who has done the interview: I have read the thread so thank you for those tips. But I guess I want to be sure, regurgitating the written submission is a no. But did others just dip in and out of your career to date, highlighting achievements and any competences these achieved, or concentrate on one or two elements in depth? or what is the 'normal' format? thanks in advance! C
