I don't think mctominay should have been red.

His yellow vs Brighton was when he went for and won the ball... His momentum took him forward and he did catch the player with his studs but onto the side of the shin and his foot slid off the player, you can actually see him try to avoid/take his weight away from the player.

Vvd didn't win the ball, his studs slid down the front of the shin and placed his weight onto the foot. For me definite intent to cause harm and a red.

Some fans of other teams making comments about VVD and his tackle whilst players from their own team routinely rake players and they don’t have a problem with. VVD should be allowed to do whatever the f**k he wants to do to any player at Goodison after what Pickford did to him two years ago!

He lunged in studs up and was never in control of his momentum. You can't tackle like that regardless if it is to try and win the ball. It's a red all day as was VVD's. How can you say VVD's was an intent to cause injury. Both tackles are extremely reckless and dangerous. Plenty of your fellow Utd fans thought it was red at the time. Proof is in your thread. You have an opinion on the Mctominay tackle not widely shared by even your fellow Utd supporters so I am happy to keep my own opinion on it. By all means continue to clutch at straws if you want.

    Studs weren't up from Mctominay.

Also Mctominay won the ball then caught the player after, contact was unavoidable but he tried to minimize it.

Vvd didn't win the ball. Only caught the player. That's the big difference.

We will have to agree to disagree but supporters will always have different opinions.

Proof in your own thread that mine was shared by many and yours by few.

You might want to get the auld eyes tested there David

VVD’s tackle wasn’t reckless. It was a bad tackle, mistimed or late.

Three things guaranteed in life. Death, taxes and Haaland goals.

De Bruyne and Haaland striking up a great partnership. Each always on the lookout for the other.

    Wow! Cracking strike from Bailey!

More poor stuff from City in the build up. I'm sure Haaland will bang in another one or two to bail them out though.

City are great in a different way now, obviously, but definitely have less control than previously.

Could still win this easily though.

Looks like Coutinho was actually onside, despite the lino raising his flag and the ref then blowing just as he scored. Looks a bad (important) call on first glance there anyway. Considering some of the clear off-sides that they let play continue from, no idea why they blew up for such a tight one.

They've gotten a few big calls their way already this season. I've still absolutely no idea why Crystal Palace's third goal was struck off last week, seemed perfectly fine.

The officiating in the preimer league be it on field or in the VAR studio is going to end up turning people off watching the biggest league in the world.

Carragher on co comments here needs to give the old boys club stuff a rest with his sycophantic gibberish re his former teammate Gerrard. He really shouldn’t be on co commentary if he’s going to be so blatantly biased.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,876 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

The inconsistencies are such a killer... like, week after week we see them play on after clear offsides, and then today they blow it up with one that was at best close (on replay he was actually well onside).

Either make all the calls quickly, or hold off for anything tight. You can't just make it up week by week.

He's as ridiculous as Neville sounded when he was defending his mate Ole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

That is all Sky and BT do get partizan commentators and pundits and get sound bites for social media hits.

    Be it Carra for Pool

    Be it Richards for City

Be it Rio or Neville for Man U

    Etc etc.

It's annoying alright... they used to all be pretty impartial, but seem to have decided that the piss boiling from being totally partizan is better for clicks and impressions, so have switched to go all out for bias comment.

If they actually cared about good commentary they would have a rule against former players commentating on their own team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,747 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

It ruins it for a complete neutral watching these games. Annoying and irritating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,258 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Will the ref blow up on time or switch to Klopp time till Haaland scores?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,896 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Watched the highlights of the Forest game, the tracking back of Lingard when he lost possession , reminded me of Dele - what is it about all those players from that English golden generation of 2018 , that they have just given up, bar Kane and a few others. Shaw, Maguire, Rose are others.

Bringing in VAR has destroyed officiating and done no favours for the on feild officals.

Before VAR yes they made mistakes it was over and done with they missed something and we could all except that the next day.

Now that they have VAR they are making more and more mistakes and not correcting them when they have the video to show errors and mistales have been made.

Get rid of VAR and go back to good old fashioned human error.

Well well well. Wasn't expecting Villa to get anything there at all.

Arsenal might have this league wrapped up by the start of the world cup...

    Villa robbed.

Good to see City drop points again anyway - though they're very lucky to have gotten away with Villa's (perfectly fine) winner being ruled out. Still, a draw keeps things interesting for another while, on paper at least.
