I wouldn't open anything for the public on O'Connell Street, it's a warzone.

Can always hear the excitement in his voice when he THINKS he has a 'gotcha', later replaced by a sigh when he realises it was his own lack of understanding.

What's the jaysus point in doing a call with each volunteer, what will that achieve, the gig is over?

I have no idea. I am guessing they were worried about volunteers not giving out correct information, possibly that causes legal issues etc.

lots of these volunteers sound like nosey pains in the hole

It's actually quite an interesting topic. CA corporate strategy seems to be a combination of 1) putting all the staff on the payroll and 2) closing down physical offices. Which is part of general government agenda that the public should do as much as possible online. Strong echoes of closing POs and Garda stations and banks and so on.

Why can't these volunteers volunteer at something else?

    Very much so.

They clearly think the "new roles" would be below them.

    This is absolute bullshyte.

In the CAB, I was trained up in my area of specialisation. There were several levels of volunteer training and the CAB was careful to make sure that somebody with no experience of a particular problem either wasn't presented with a client with that problem or could easily call in assisstance from a volunteer (or paid member) who was.

I've got absolutely no doubt the CIS was the same.

So they had a woman call in looking for marriage counselling from Citizens information, resulting in a half-hour chat and other people waiting to get through for help with Covid queries or filling in forms?

Men watching porrrrrrrn. What has the world come to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,409 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    Exactly.

Clearly the volunteers were covering areas they didn't legally know how to cover, but were doing it anyway.

Plenty of stories of people being told nonsense by citizens information.

KPMG will decide it's a waste of money to run it.
