The Scott Parker sack definitely has very little to do with the results and more so to do with a falling out behind the scenes with the board

No way the owners would expect more than 3 pts when their first 4 games were Villa, City, Arsenal and Liverpool .

Bournemouth are destined for relegation with their squad and the way they’re being run

Any reason why potter is considered so much better than Howe? They have both done very well with average teams but winning with a good is a different challenge. I would agree that both would be better than yesterdays man Rodger and a very green Gerrard.

Potter has consistently overachieved, and looks to be doing so again this season, despite his team being pilfered of its best players, and them barely spending money. They play brilliant, diverse, tactically flexible football. And he's done it over years now.

Eddie Howe has done brilliantly at Newcastle, but I just think the ceiling is lower for him, and he's also getting signings at his current club that Potter could only dream of.

But Howe also did very well with Bournemouth before it went off the rails in his last season. And i saw that Howe has the 5th highest points per game since he joined Newcastle. So he is definitely overachieving with the current Newcastle team.

    for half a year.

it's not a knock on Howe, I just think Potter is better, and has overachieved at a certain level for longer, in a league that has never been more filled with financial behemoths.

and I used the analogy of 'if Klopp left, would I take one of the choices', so I'm using pretty much as high a bar as I can to measure them.

Potter is capable of being that good IMO. I'm simply not as sure on Eddie yet.

Newcastle have spent more in the last 12 months than any club in European football history.

It might not be on galactico style players but it's worlds apart from Brighton.

Also Howe bought pretty atrociously at Bournemouth once they gave him some money and that cost them relegation(and his job). Parker still paying the price for that.(or was til he was just sacked)

Really? I find that hard to believe? How much have they spent?

It was mentioned on Football Weekly that that their net spend in 2022 is higher than the net spend of any European club in any calendar year ever. So a couple of caveats in there.

Transfermarkt have them spending £213.39m in 2022. £90.99m in January and £122.40m so far this summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,952 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

What are City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal for the same period. Might not be much in it.

Over 200 million spent in the last 9 months (especially without any money at all from sales) is pretty serious spending in fairness.

Ya that's were I am getting it from.I was wrong with 12 months it was actually calendar year.

It's still a different world to Brighton.

United spent £128.72m this summer and signed no one in January. Though Antony to be confirmed so that's gonna hit £200m+ while taking in £10.89m this year.

Arsenal have spent £118.86m this summer and only £1.62m in January. Have taken in £21.97m this year.

Chelsea have spent £167.93m so far this summer with Fofana and possibly others to come. They've taken in £39.96m this summer and spent nothing in January.

Liverpool have spent £77.22m this summer and taken in £72.63m. They brought Diaz in for £42.30m in January and taking in no money.

Man City have spent £109.57m this summer and taken in £143.91m. They spent £15.30m in January and took in £49.50m.

Don't know where Transfermarkt take their figures for transfers from and obviously don't account for fees that are included within transfers.

The only thing I don't like about transfermarkt is that you often have to include a clubs u21 & u18 pages for transfers also, as sometimes some big money transfers are hidden in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,033 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yeah can be a pain in the arse of a website at times. Pretty sure Bazunu wasn't included as he would have been an U21 player along with a couple of others and Chelsea signed a couple of youngsters so their money spent is probably higher as well.

Dyche favourite for the Bournemouth job, he could be a good fit there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,033 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Couldn't see Dyche touching them. Probably sit around waiting for something better to become available like Villa or Everton.

"He has basically said to his players that he doesn't think they are very good, in a roundabout way. If I heard that from my manager, I'd be wondering if he thinks I am good enough. It puts that doubt in your mind. With two days left of the transfer window, it's too late. Surely he is having these conversations beforehand. You aren't going to get the player you want anyway, but even if you do get them you are going to have to pay too much money. I just think it's too little too late for that." What on earth is Micah Richards on?

He is the poster boy for “stealing a living by offering nothing”. I actually don’t know what Scott Parker could have done at Bournemouth. He’s looking at Forest, just on purchase #17, and thinking, “Who have I got? A few injured players on free transfers.”

The club clearly expected him to work miracles, but not talk to the media at the same time. They jumped on him quickly enough. For that alone, I hope they go down now.

I’m beginning to think that maybe the Watfords, Norwiches, WBAs, Burnleys and Bournemouths of the world should just form a group called “Premier Yoyos” and go up and down on alternate seasons, especially if they are expecting survival on a shoestring.

The good news for the other 19 EPL clubs now is that it looks like one spot in the bottom 3 has been reserved.

Scott will get a team promoted again in the next season or 2 - and maybe he'll get backed next time round.

Ref looks bad in the Leeds Everton game. Everton time wasting since the 10th minute and he's done nothing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,676 ✭✭✭doc_17

Yeah, Pickford especially. Throw ins taking 30 plus seconds is a joke. The PL want to “let it flow” this year, they’d reap rewards if they cracked down on delayed restarting of the game. In the recent Spurs Chelsea match the ball was in play for 11 of the last 30 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭McFly85

Game 5 and Everton have so little belief in their own ability they collapse on the ground at every opportunity and take an age with throw ins and goal kicks. Playing like they already expect to be in a relegation fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,676 ✭✭✭doc_17

Fulham v Brentford…..final whistle at 98:08. Of the 8 minutes and 8 seconds of added time the ball was in play for less than 3 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,676 ✭✭✭doc_17

The final 5 minutes of Chelsea v Soton was very exciting as the ball was actually in play for all of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭Schwiiing

Deserved win for Southampton. Chelsea's place in the Top 4 up for grabs imo. Cant see where the goals will come from.

Leeds have given up the initiative since their substitutions

Will Chelsea drop another £100m before the window closes tomorrow after that result.

Tuchel has no idea how to set up a team to attack on a consistent basis. They're still relying on defenders to score, same as last year when he seemed to just refuse to work with Lukaku. He has averaged 1.95 points per game over 60 odd games, very much just getting top 4 level. He can set up a team well and they'll always be hard to beat and be competitive in cups but he's too conservative for what's required to win the PL.

And why are they after wide players, he's had at least 4 in his squad over the last 18 months and hasn't been able to do anything with them as he plays with wing backs.
