We’re only 3 games in, and only 1 side in the whole league hasn’t dropped points already. That’s pretty interesting.

He's a very underrated manager probably the best manager from Britain and Ireland. Not given a penny to spend was a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,188 ✭✭✭✭rob316

He'll have no shortage of suitors anyway, very good manager.

I wouldn't worry about Rodgers he will spoof his way into anotherr decent job following his same old pattern about blaming owners for not backing him.

Maybe if he actually learned to coach a team how to defend he might do ok.

He is nowhere near the standard of Pep, Klopp, Tuchel or Conte

He can't be seem with the likes of Potter, Arteta, Frank, Veria or Lage as the up and coming managers

To be fair he is better than Lampard & Gerrard

He will soon be heading for the journeyman manager role like Moyes

I think you are being unfair about the spoofer stuff but bang on about him being another Moyes. That's his level really.

I expected him to leave at the end of last season. Leicester have stagnated as a club and that only means they’ll regress. Rodgers did a good job with them, two top 5 finishes. European football. An FA Cup win, their first ever as a club. That’s as good as it gets for a club like Leicester bar that freak league title with Ranieri. He should have got out while the going was good.

Everton could and are doing a lot worse already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,758 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

I was going to comment on this. Everton should be all over this if he walks, annoying and all as Rodgers is, he would be a serious upgrade on Frank!

Do Everton have any players that would suit Rodgers? Serious lack of goals in Everton's squad and they keep conceding, that wouldn't strike me as a Rodgers job - he needs to mask the defence by winning games 3-2 etc.

Sean Dyche is coming to Everton eventually this season. 0-0 and 1-0 his way to safety. McNeil & Iwobi/Gordon as wide midfielders in a 4-4-2. Doucoure & Allan/Onana sitting deep covering Tarkowski & Keane/Coady. DCL might be fit with Rondon / Townsend / Gray upfront along with him.

Do people really think Everton will go for another ex-Liverpool manager?

still can't believe any referee would think that the Trippier tackle was a red. we all hate those tackles when our team is counter attacking, but the fact his instinct was red is very worrying. he also stood at the screen for a fúcking age before changing the decision - he was extremely reluctant.

referees in this league are utter garbage. it's like none of them have any common sense.

I think Carragher said it best. It would have been inconsistent to send him off, based on the refereeing we’ve seen to date, but that knee high clearly intentional fouls should probably be a red card.

The yellow cards for a professional foul and the yellow card for a dangerous challenge shouldn’t wash either away if you do both at once.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,919 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

I don't think knee high should automatically be red. he clearly didn't go in with his studs, or seek to properly injure him. it was a clear trip, that's all.

if the logic is that a trip on the knee is dangerous, and therefore should be a red, the logic, I assume, is that the knee joint is potentially open to a bad injury from the trip. but what's the difference between a knee joint and an ankle joint then? if we want joints protected from serious injury, ultimately, a simple trip at the ankle is potentially dangerous. so should that be a red?

so will tripping be allowed anymore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,882 ✭✭✭✭CSF

No, the logic is that knee high should be a yellow and a professional foul should also be a yellow. The idea that these should wash each other away is far too open to gamesmanship, which while not violent conduct, still massively increases the risk of serious injury.

Those kinds of tackles should only be allowed as part of a mistimed genuine attempt at the ball. They shouldn’t be allowed as intentional attempts to foul another player and should become red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,882 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Why not? They’ve gone for ex Liverpool players loads of times. Would be their loss to not upgrade on Lampard with Rodgers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,315 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It would be fun to see soccer trial a black card like hurling.

If the last man back takes out the attacker anywhere on the pitch its a penalty. No more chopping down the counter attacker on the halfway because you know it's just a yellow.

Yeah, there’s probably some merit to having a card for professional fouls/tactical fouls that aren’t yellow or red. It would decrease the amount of them fairly quickly (there’d definitely still be situations where it was considered the percentage play.

The only problem is you’d get all the usual outrage from people who hate anything that didn’t exist in football in the 70s (usually as a way of convincing themselves that they’re harder than they actually are).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭McFly85

I’m ok with the yellow for a tactical foul as-is - it should be a decision the player has to weigh up. Most of the time a player is well aware they’ll get a yellow for it and don’t protest.

But some teams have turned tactical fouling into an art form - done higher up the pitch before it really looks like a chance could be formed and with half hearted attempts for the ball but ensuring play is stopped. Referees absolutely need to get better at recognising it when it’s happening.

Rodri seems to get away with it more than most. Could have had a yellow several times over yesterday but for some reason just didn’t. Maybe there needs to be a set number that if you hit, you have to be given a yellow.

Because it was a disaster last time and doomed from the start!

One possible solution for a tactical foul could be an advanced free kick. The black card in Gaelic doesn’t stop cyclical play, it merely punishes it in an inappropriate manner.

Whats the latest on Man U protests this evening? Are they actually going to ahead, not show up, show up for the game late, leave early, etc.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,674 ✭✭✭doc_17

Doesn’t seem to be any posting on social media about it either. I’d say a very hostile atmosphere is what they are hoping for? If the game is cancelled Liverpool should get the points. There just isn’t time for rescheduling matches this season due to this type of thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,882 ✭✭✭✭CSF

There probably is time for one rescheduling, but I’m inclined to agree anyway. United fans want to create disruption for the Glazers and for there to be an actual impact that makes people take notice. A 3-0 Liverpool win does exactly that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

How long into the game before Sky pan the camera to Alex sitting in the stands or Ronnie sulking on the bench if he doesn't start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,342 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

If it does come down to a cancellation, even though its highly unlikely, Id have no issue with LFC being given the 3 points. Tickets for the match have already being sold so that wont have have any major effect but the tv audience for it will be massive, no game because of protests will likely mean a significant financial hit for the club. The Glazers dont give two flucks about the club so hitting them in the pocket may be the best course of action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,315 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Yep. Nothing will hurt them more than the drop in share price that sitting in relegation will bring. Add to that having to repay tickets and surely the tourist fan tickets will dry up if people keep going to Manchester for nothing.

Not a fan of it though. A soccer team is not worth the agro and settling or the stress to the average staff.

Benitez? Everton appears to be a poorly run club. They even had Ancelotti there for a bit and he couldn’t do much with them.

Rodgers could do better than them himself. He’s a good coach but like a lot of them gets a decent turn out of players for a certain amount of time in his case around 3 years. He’s not in the same bracket as Guardiola or Ancelotti but still a very useful coach and he’ll get offers from decent sized clubs if he wants it.

If this game is cancelled, then Liverpool should get the points. It will be the 3rd occurrence of this particular fixture that is being targeted for these protests and game cancellations etc. These large events don't happen before other games.

I'm all for protesting against these type of owners and loading debt etc but purposely targeting one other team to get their game cancelled in order to highlight this is not on tbf. Constant protests before multiple games in a row and not affecting the games would be effective too I reckon.

Anyways, looks like it hasn't got off to the best start as these fans, wearing their brand new kits, have got distracted by the new shiny toy.
