Nonsense. The PL has had the tightest title races of any of the major leagues in Europe. Several times the league has been decided on the last day of the season. It's the complete opposite of the Bundesliga or Ligue 1.

I'd be much more worried about La Liga with regards to that. It will turn into a yearly progression for Real Madrid if Barcelona's farcical gamble will blow up in their faces.

The most pertinent word in that statement is "has". Yes, there have been some close run races, but for the most part it has been a single team dominating and a few others getting lucky. Rather than thinking about the 1 point differences on the last day of the season, zoom out. One team has won 4 of the 5 most recent leagues and looks on course to win another. Sure, Liverpool, Chelsea and maybe even Spurs or Arsenal might run them close every once in a while but its impossible to keep pace with a financially stocked giant.

Jesus the salt. Anderson is a lot more than a 'awkward lump of a defender'.

Its not true, City have not had it all ther way . Liverpool have run them close most years. and City have still to win CL, Leicester won the league 6 years ago, when Spurs should have won it . Chelsea are also hovering around most years . City are for sure favourites this year, but

What I do find strange, Newcatle a team , many times wealthier than City , have spent the summer looking for attacking players, and are now reduced to squabbling with Watford, for a player I know little about.

Splashing enormous sums of money on players is no guarantee of success & can leave the club unbalanced. Bringing in a new attacking midfielder earning £250k a week when the rest of the squad are taking home a fifth of that can naturally cause problems too as has been seen before. Newcastle United & it’s new owners, staff, manager etc seem to have a long term plan not only in developing the fortunes of the senior team this season but developing the entire club (& all its teams), the players, the staff, the stadium & indeed the city itself. I’m confident they have a long term plan & are all working to it.

I’m in no hurry for Newcastle to win the league/cup/become a strong regular European football participant again, I’m hopeful it will happen soon enough but what I want more than anything as a supporter is for the club to be safe, stable & run well. The superstar players will come in time, along with (fingers crossed!) titles & trophies. Needlessly throwing crazy sums of money around & overpaying for players never works out in the long run, & eventually only leaves the club with long term problems.

I do think for Newcastle to bring in big name players in the years to come it will take more than just money.

They will need a hugely charismatic and proven successful manager that these big name players will want to play for.

Eddie Howe is a decent manager that’s about it however he is probably a good manager to actually lay the foundations of building a footballing side and culture at the club.

Leicester upping the price of Fofana to £100m.

    3 nil to Leeds

I hope they go to £500m and are forced to purchase the England rock Harry Maguire

Reece James caught in no mans land a couple times in the last 10 mins for the goal and another big chance created. He already has the security of 3 CBs behind him. Imagine if that was TAA....

Tuchel under a lot of pressure now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,869 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Today, yes. But usually not. And the same situations arise then. Doesn't change the fact he was caught out badly.

    Brainless from Koulibally.

It's going to be a rough season for Chelsea I reckon, at best a top four finish but it'll be tough as Spurs and Arsenal have improved, we're woefully short up front, I just don't see where the goals are going to come from with this team.

Assuming Liverpool will get back on track which is likely given their talent it will probably be very tough to break the top 4 given how good Spurs and Arsenal look as you say.

Good as Arsenal have been early season, I still kinda expect them to drop off at some stage. They always seem to find it very hard to keep the level up consistently. Over the long haul of the season, I think I fancy Chelsea to nab 4th.

Arsenal also have European games this season rather than one game a week. I fully expect them to go close though and possibly just miss out but win the FA Cup and go deep in the EL.

I know it's the Arsenal thing to do but the have signed well and gelled well.

I think their biggest weakness is Arteta. He has no more experience than Ole/Gerrard/Lampard but he gets a full pass because he cosplays Pep Guardiola.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,040 ✭✭✭irelandrover

I think Arteta seems to get a free pass because he has a plan for the club. They seem to be recruiting well in his years there. And he seems to have built a good atmosphere at the club.

City already one up ....they look unstoppable for another season unfortunately.....

Bruno Fernandes-esque from Almiron there, blazing it over the bar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,302 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He might prove me wrong this year but so far he has done nothing that wouldn't be expected of that squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,567 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Not often you see City being outplayed like this but you feel they have another gear or two to move up into. Newcastle must score in this spell if they want anything from the game.

Amazing how many snatched chances you see against City at times.

    The aura is real.
