How long does a social welfare payment stay in the post office for

Hi everyone, how long does a social welfare payment stay in the post office for? Say if you missed collecting your payment one week, would you be able to collect it next week? And still get your payment for the new week? Thanks!

My post office will keep it for two weeks max. Other post offices might be different though.

You need to tell the SW how long you'll be on holidays for, or unable to collect welfare payments for any reason. Lack of transparency may lead to questions and postponement of payments.

It depends on the payment.

Some are 20 days, some are up to 90 days (old age pension). Link to PDF

If you leave it uncollected for one week, it should be fine.

If you will be on holiday on unable to collect for 2 or more then more weeks, you have to inform the Department.

If it’s Jobseekers and it’s not collected within a couple of days it’ll be returned and the claim will be suspended.

Can anyone clarify if the 20 days is still in effect for jobseekers benefit? I think this info might be outdated. I believe it is 2-5 days and then the payment is returned.
