I lived in Dingle for nearly 7 years & not once heard irish spoken and yet the funding was extraordinary, there was also a major kerfuffle over irish Road signs and a renaming of Dingle, some folks might recall.

Face it Cian. Irish is a dead language. Useful for nothing apart from cultural reasons. Personally, and born and bred Irish, I don't like the sound of it at all.

A lot of the Irish teachers weren't very good, I had one Irish teacher and she was a nun, excellent Irish teacher, only had her for one year, as she then moved to California. I think I would have been good if I had her teaching it for 5 years.

The nearest Gaeltacht to me is just west of Dungarvan.

I was unaware of its existence until a friend introduced me to it. I think it's great it survives and even seems to be thriving, albeit with subsidies.

She sounds like someone you would rather avoid getting into an argument with.

I wish we had some sort of defence for the country, but a lot of people seem allergic to it.

The biggest change is this area in recent years was the Official Languages Act 2003, has been used to bring in all these changes.

There was no referendum on it, despite it's implications. That was a disgrace and there should have been a public vote.

What we have now, is a language lobby that is determined to use legislative means to enforce their ideology, when ordinary persuasion has failed.
