Probably has put himself out of contention already. Very poor start.

Lowry putting like Hulk Hogan today. For a man with such a high standing in the game, his putting continues to be at the same level as a high handicapper or hacker like me!

good battling to get back to even par and missed a short on last to get under par.Probably too far back if conditions stay benign as needs Rory etc to have a bad day to catch up ,or alternatively needs a really low one .

Shane is stuck in a first round rut in almost every tournament he plays. He ends up on even par or 1 or 2 over and 6 - 9 shots behind the leader everytime and under pressure to make the cut. He continually talks about his game being in good shape etc yet he fails to deliver.

I think a slow start is less of a issue at a major as the leaderboard is nearly always more volatile than a standard PGA tourney where the leader shoots 8 under and then 3 further rounds in the 60s which makes it almost impossible to catch up.He definitely needs 3 or 4 under tomorrow although my bro reckons the slow afternoon play will wreck his head and he wont perform.Anyway heres hoping

He is a streaky putter, when on form he will pay well and win big but fade when off form, even he has said this and that he accepts it

Could be some truth in this, just can't seem to get going from the start and already 8 behind. Still has a chance but needs 3 66's to have a chance.

Playing really well, but the putts aren’t dropping for him. Could easily be -6 had a few of them dropped.

This bunker shot won't be pleasant.

Good to see him there for the weekend.

Birdie birdie to finish. A round of what could have been you have to think.

Two days of good putts not dropping. Very unlucky not to be in the top 20.

    Brilliant eagle

3 under for the day so far

    Back to back eagle chips!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,994 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

He should just leave the putter in the bag and chip everything in

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,796 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He's well due them. Could he possibly do this? It'd be an incredible comeback.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,088 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Should have left it in the bag at 12, 3 putted from 15 feet.

damage was done on thursday,3 under today would be fine although disappointing if he had been 3 or 4 under after first round.

Glad to see that Shane has been reunited with his clubs. Airline travel is becoming a farce.

Mad start from Lowry - was 4 over through 4 holes but has responded with eagle

Jesus, battled back from +4 to get it to -2 ,all set for weekend and bogeys 18,below cut currently but might get lucky depending on weather,is due a bit of luck from weather,I know its a nice lifesytle but that type of missed cut must drive the pros mad.heres hoping.

Shane needs to do something about his putting, it's awful, also again this week ,way behind the leader after the first round. Maybe time for a change of caddy.

It’s always the caddies fault. Surprised more lads here are not on tour or on the sky with the knowledge they have.

Something needs to change that might help him win again.

Coming off a break and no Clubs until Wednesday night but blame the caddy or the putter...

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,796 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Losing your clubs doesn't help. A caddy who was with you when you won the Open and got lauded for how good he was doesn't turn crap all of a sudden.

Lots of clueless armchair experts here.

Shane is currently one shot outside the cut line in a tie for 66th place at 1 under with 4 players due to finish their rounds today. Top 65 plus ties make it through to the weekend. One of the players on 2 under (Chris Gotterup) has already played 4 shots on the par 4 18th and will therefore drop back to 1 under, moving Shane up into a tie for 65th. However, another player (Austin Smotherman) who is currently 1 under has an 11’9” birdie putt on the 17th. If he makes the putt or if he birdies the 18th, the cut line will move back to 2 under.

There are currently 23 players (potentially 24 including Gotterup) on 1 under who will be waiting anxiously to see how Smotherman closes out his round.

Gutterup has played 4 shots on the 18th but darkness stopped play.

If Smotherman stays -1 and Gutterup goes back to -1, will all the -1s get in?
