upgrade from ryzen 3100 & 1030GT

i've got 3100 & 1030 at the minute but it is really struggling with games like hell let loose & cyberpunk (getting 30fps on lowest settings). currently 2060rtx & 5600 ryzen are available for $400 combined. happy to listen to alternatives if anyone can suggest what to go for Follow up Q: Would the 2060 paired with my existing 3100 be enough for HLL/cyberpunk ?

Do you know what is your motherboard brand/model? How much RAM do you have? If by 3100 you mean the Ryzen 3 3100 (4c/8t@3.9GHz) then I recommend that you upgrade your GPU first and foremost: the 1030 is really weak. Instead of the 2060rtx check out the rx6600:

I'm not sure how CPU bound CP2077 is but that also depends on the resolution you play at and you didn't mention a target resolution.. :( But I think that moving from a 4c/8t@3.9GHz to a 6c/12t@4.4GHz won't make that much of a difference. The 1030 however was an entry card when you first bought it, now it's just outdated. Throw in CP2077 into that mix and what you're doing qualifies as graphics card torture... :P

That 5600 + RTX 2060 combo is good value. Go for it. Can probably get back 80+ euro for the 3100+GT 1030.

Just make sure to check if your motherboard has a BIOS which can support it first.

Moving from 4c Zen 2 processor to 6c Zen 3 processor is a huge uplift. Not only the the increase in CPU/boost clock, but also IPC, double L3 cache + the fact it's on a single die removes a lot of stutter in CPU-bound games.

e.g. upgrading from 3600X to 5600X made Switch emulation playable for me.

RTX 2060 is a huge improvement over 1030 (which isn't really a gaming GPU) and you will get a smoother experience in Cyberpunk with some tweaking and DLSS.

I game at 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz monitors

Is the 6600 vs 2060 worth the extra money? It's 280 vs 250

At the low end where DLSS makes a huge difference I would go with NVidia.

RX 6600 is barely faster than RTX 2060 (around 10%). Would be a different story if it was RX 6600 XT (+25%)

You may want to upgrade your motherboard's bios to the latest version. But other then that you're good to go. Regarding the GPU, it just occurred to me that some time ago AMD cards were glitching in CP2077's indoor scenes: the characters would become very dark. Some issue with the drivers... :( not sure if this an issue exclusive to Vega cards, but something that you should lookup in CP2077 troubleshooting forums if you decide to go down the RX route.

I could re-use my old CPU/gpu in a PC for my kids. All I would need is a cheap mobo. Is there a 50e AM4 mobo that I could use for my old 3100 CPU?

is the 6600 worth the 20% premium over the 2060 (i appreciate that it is a newer card). cheapest 6600 delivered to ireland is ~300e vs ~250e for 2060

Your CPU will suffice for another while, it's the GPU that is the titanic bottleneck.

Get a new card now, get a new CPU later, but just putting in a new card you will be fine for now and see a massive increase in performance.

A Ryzen 3100 is broadly similar to something like an i7-6700K. Dated now, but still fairly capable in the vast majority of games with a decent card.
