Phoenix Park 25c at 1pm, you suspect hottest temp of the year set yesterday (25.9c) will be beaten.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,211 ✭✭✭John.Icy

Yep 25 in totally overcast conditions. If this clearer spot keeps hold we should see the hottest temperature of the year in the next hour or so.

Heat is slowly building owing to the haze and light breeze. 23.2c now in South Laois.

27 degrees now recorded at Phoenix Park, impressive. Even Dublin Airport which would normally be more exposed to coastal breeze is 26 degrees now

29.1C now at the Churchtown station. Feeling the heat here too in nearby Knocklyon. The Arome model did allude to this possibility yesterday.

Its 23.4C here in Loughlinstown despite a strong sea breeze. We are only about 1km from the sea so usually that pegs temperatures right back to around 18ish. Very warm air indeed.

Still cloudy here in Carrick 22c, last night was 16c very warm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,829 ✭✭✭Rougies

No, not an official station. but MetE did mention it before so maybe it's a "recognised" station or something. It's on the edge of a golf course beside housing estates so will have the urban heat island effect for sure. There's another one at the other side of the golf course reporting the same temps. you can see them on https://wow.met.ie/

Windy and overcast today. Mild though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭Slashermcguirk

27.2 at Dublin airport very impressive given its location and exposure to coastal breeze. Phoenix park is quite often up to 3 degrees warmer than Dublin airport. Casement is usually warmer too. Dublin Airport nearly always the coolest of the 3 Dublin met stations.

No sign of the 4pm readings update yet on met.ie

Ya Dublins high temperature records are fairly dismal considering its been 30c on numerous Summers in the North and West. We touched 30c here last year a couple of days but 24c yesterday is not topped today as 22c and cloudy.

While Dublin's record of hitting 30 are very poor indeed, its consistently better and warmer weather throughout almost every week of the year mean its still the place to be along with the south east if you want decent weather in this country. No doubt during heatwaves that the midlands are where you want to be but I would take Dublin's much drier weather most weeks of the year.

Will be interesting to see what the hot spot will be this week, forecast across much of the country looks great.

    Casement 26 C at 16:30.

Dublin airport's temperature sensor is 3.5 km west (i.e. further inland) of the main terminal building and is 10 km from the nearest coastline (Dollymount strand to its southeast). Wind at 1600 was 140 degrees (SE) at 8 knots and at 1630 (also reading 27 °C) it's from 170 degrees (S) at 9 gusting 19 knots. The anemometer is 2 km east of the temperature sensor, so in the finely balanced case in close proximity to a seabreeze front, the wind at the actual temperature sensor could be very different to that at the anemometer.

Thats interesting GL, didnt realise that about its location at Dublin airport. I suppose its such a massive site.

Any way of knowing what the highest reading so far at Phoenix park is? Would normally expect it to be at least 2 degrees warmer than the airport, maybe not today though.

27.4C was the highest figure I seen for its AWS on WOW. More than likely the Met will confirm in a tweet soon or later.

High cloud thickened up substantially here over southern Laois and the temperatures have dropped back. Maxed closer to 25c than 24c despite the nice breeze.

    Currently 23c.

Shame about the cloud cover so far hopefully things can improve going forward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,388 ✭✭✭Rebelbrowser

For the Dublin lads, is it a blue sky day there? Surprised it got to 27c + there, and I thought there was even a suggestion it was partly cloudy there which would make it even more impressive. It's 70% cloudy here today but still very pleasant. Least warm day since Thursday though.

Bar Killkenny/Carlow the Shannon basin from South Donegal to Limerick city has the best potential for extreme temperatures as has been shown the last few years time and again.

Having lived on both east coast and north west yes the east coast over the spring/summer/autumn has much longer spells of settled weather, but for spikes the west along the river is always prone to a surprise.
