Yes, after the Adele song they played that Lizzo song they play every couple of hours and then straight into cash machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,606 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Should they give up or should they just keep on chasing payments? 🤗

    This too shall pass.

There's only going to be more competitions on these stations. They are probably making a killing out of them.

Rte are fond on the odd competitin too.

Re the Cash Machine, that is on all the Bauer Media owned stations in Ireland. The presenters, or even the PDs or the management of the individual stations, have no say in that. And it's the same one, with the same text number, regardless of which station you hear it on. They may refer to the station's "cash machine", but it's not!

🤔 Absolutely none of what you've listed is a "money making shill", though? The competition is free to enter.

I mean, if I had a free competition to send someone all expenses paid to a huge gig in Hyde Park starring one of the biggest stars of the last decade, I'd kinda publicise it. Be stupid not to.

(Maybe the Gift Grub bit was too much, though, I agree with you there).

D&D had that laughing quiz on again today, they aren't even pretending it's funny anymore. Summer pints repeated the other week too, things are gone very stale and lazy on the station

I stopped listening to this station months ago and switched to a local station. I heard today fm today for the first time in months and it was absolutely awful, I don't how people listen to it daily

Had it on in the car on tuesday eve, wtf is up with the newsreader, is it an actual australian person? Sounds like an AI bot that was taught an Aussie accent off someone from Roscommon, intonations are all over the shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,575 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

I don't think Today FM have their own newsreaders these days. They would have the same as Newstalk and they would be syndicated across a number of stations.

Was it a woman? I’ve heard a female aussie newsreader on 98 fm this year a few times. I would assume it’s the same person.

They sounded new enough to newsreading when I heard them. This was probably in May

I fully expect to hear her taking a huge drag off a spliff between stories. She sounds absolutely stoned.

I heard her on Spin earlier and thought she sounded a lot better. Maybe she had an off day before (which happens to everyone!)

Fiona Cooney may be the one you’re thinking of. She’s been reading the news on Spin frequently enough lately.

More of a Bauer/Spin thing but I've been thinking. What If Bauer and iRadios parent company agree to swap the South West and the North East region licences. (JNLR still treats iRadio as 2 separate stations in 2 different regions i102-104 and i105-107). Bauer could then amalgamate Spin into one station for Dublin and its commuter belt.

iRadio with control over the whole West coast could then do a complete rebrand as "Wild Atlantic Radio: Text 51252"

    This too shall pass.

Nicky Byrne is co-hosting with Pamela Joyce tomorrow ,I wonder are the testing him out for a job!

This isn't solely a rant at Todayfm, as rte are equally as guilty, but it's been refreshing to hear the excellent Kate Bush being played again on our mainstream radio shows.

Often followed of course by a dj telling us what an amazing artist she is.

Is that right? Well how come we have to wait for such music to be used in a trendy TV show before you stations actually decide to play such 'quality music'?

Surely it shows there is a desire to hear good songs, irrespective of their age?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

Literally had this exact conversation with someone earlier. Stations scrambling around to try seem "cool" by playing the song now that it featured in a popular TV show. They are so, so sad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,606 ✭✭✭✭flazio

But then, who decides what's "good". The yardstick since the dawn of radio is the IRMA charts, what's flying high there must be what everyone wants to hear. Kate Bush flew back in, Fleetwood Mack Dreams came back thanks to a TikTok video and a later cover. Elton John and Mariah Carey have had major covers recently. If you don't use the charts then what do you use?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,653 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Maybe let the DJ decide?

Of course by all means play stuff in the charts, that's a no brainer. People still want to hear the current hits.

But allow a certain amount of leeway with regard to older songs.

Isn't that what Nova and, dare I say it, RTÉ Gold are for? Don't get me wrong, Ed Smith's Sunday show when he does an 80s or 90s night are my favourite radio, and jebus, I love the dance music Dec Pierce plays on Block Rockin' Beats even though it passed me by first time round, but outside of the likes of those shows and Claire Beck, Today FM is, with the rarest of exceptions, strictly a "charts" station.

It looks that way but I hope not. Pamela Joyce doesn't need him, nor did Jenny Greene.

Nicky is some man seeing as he was due to tee off in Adare at the JP pro am at 9.30 this morning. Co-hosting is a very loose term it seems when it's clearly a pre recorded segment and the pretense is a silly from today FM I think

Wahey!!! Gannons last day on The Last Word "reviewing" TV. Thank fùck no more reality love island guff in that slot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,606 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Unless Maria moves off Dermot & Dave or does a second stint on Last Word. Imagine that jingle on The Last Word.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭nomoedoe

Was it pre recorded?,I didn’t listen but they were doing some talking about it on D&D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭ Juniper Petite Sordidness

Did bit of a passive aggressive tweet on her "Detractors"- amazed how she called herself a reviewer when she proudly claimed to never have watched Breaking Bad/The Wire - two of the highly rated shows ever and used to only go on her soapbox about how she only watches shows that met a diversity quota or some brain dead reality show....sure they'll have someone to do the similar rants as she did

Unless he played the fastest round of golf ever then yes as he has pictures from the round on his Instagram and had a tee off time of 9.30 alongside Shane Filan and Kian Egan.
