Bang on, 2020 was very windy. Second half of August exceptionally so - partially but not solely because of Storm Ellen. Late June/early July was also notably windy.

Summer 2020 hit all the pillars of poor. Very wet, check. Very cloudy, check. Very windy, check. Largely cool by day with a few exceptions, check.

I'm surprised at how many have already forgotten how horrendous it was.

Friday looks bad in some places but not in others. Hit and miss. Generally the South and West look worst affected. Rainfall in these areas well above normal. In North and East less so.

I think weather warnings be issued for the west or parts of the south on Saturday looks rather wet but well welcomed rain, the low is just hanging around southwestern Ireland for Friday and Saturday

Yr.no has upgraded the 8 day rainfall totals for Cork to 148mm

This is a major upgrade from 81mm earlier.

Yes Ireland our wettest week of 2022 is going to occur in the Peak Summer period.

As I said earlier in this thread June is a wash out. What’s to come in the next few days has copper fastened it.

Dublin looks like escaping most of the rain ,I'm happy with that

Much like I said earlier when I said next week could well be the wettest week of the year so far. Sounds Extreme, but we've only really had about 8 properly wet weeks since last August.

Latest charts are still looking quite wet over the next week but I've a feeling their starting to backtrack a little.

But there is no escaping that we have some very unsettled days ahead from Friday and might be some thunder potential in there too.

I will welcome the cooler nights tho, the past week the nights have started to become very warm. Currently still 17C here in Meath, very warm for this late in the night.

There is a lot of doubt over the quantity of rain still.

Could be anything from 30mm to 100mm. All depends on low track and embedded showers and rainfall locations within the low. In any case tomorrow and Saturday look very wet. After that there is the famous "uncertainty"

Great summary of the season so far!

At least it looks like staying dry for bonfire night tonight.

Was a bit of a washout the last couple of years.

Well we live in mungret and we had to get our builder back as our new patio area was flooding. What about Sunday week before last , rained all day. Mist last night , rained all night Tuesday night.

Looking at the rainfall over the next few days looks a bit more hit and miss in terms of how much rain some areas will get while others could escape relatively lightly.

Tomorrow does look wettest across the far west of Galway and Mayo with more showery rain elsewhere. Some places could get quite wet while others could escape with very little rainfall.

    Untitled Image

Wetter across eastern areas tomorrow afternoon, again this looks a bit hit or miss but some locally heavy downpours and possibly thunder mixed in.

    Untitled Image

    Saturday:

Saturday looks quite wet again across the west particularly Galway and later on in the afternoon the midlands and the north-west.

    Untitled Image Untitled Image

Light rain or showers eventually make it into Leinster and the south-east on Saturday evening but it could be fairly light and patchy by then.

    Untitled Image

It will become increasingly windy especially on Saturday and into Sunday with some rather strong gusts across western areas and fairly breezy right across the country so the dreaded wind will be back along with the rain and lower temperatures.

    Untitled Image

Saturday will be a particulary chilly day with temperatures struggling in the low teens.

    Untitled Image

Expected rainfall totals over the weekend will be highest across western portions of Mayo and Galway with up to 70 or 80mm possible there by Sunday evening. The farmers in the east and south-east could be a bit dissapointed with the rainfall totals over the weekend, but then there are plenty of chances of wet weather all through next week.

I live in the west of the county..no rain last night or tuesday night either..baled silage here yesterday morning. The sunday (day of munster final) we got mist but not worth talking about. Just shows the difference even a few miles apart.

I'm in Limerick city suburbs and the ground is so dry and hard. Was on one of the local golf courses yesterday and it's bone dry. Very little recent rainfall other than patchy drizzle and mist.

Where badly in need of rain here in carrick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,667 ✭✭✭OldRio

Not in Ballinamore. Stock have plenty to eat. I grow my own veg and fruit and havnt watered my beds this year. Grass is a good green colour. Growth is down due to lack of sun and heat.

No farmers I know are complaining about the lack of rain in the area.

Looking at the satellite I would not be overly optimistic of too much rain in the East. The West will get a fair bit each day but nothing severe. The wind will be an issue Saturday and Sunday but nothing we haven't seen before.

See its even possible for rain to be downgraded in Ireland. We get extremes of nothing just annoying amounts of everything.
