Best quality laptop under €500

Looking for a laptop for my mother, something quick, durable etc...

Will be used for saving photos, surfing the web, printing etc...

His old one takes an eternity to start up, something that's accessible and up and running very quickly would be ideal.

I appreciate it's probably a common question on here but can someone recommend a decent one within that budget?

this is very good value on sale at 350 euro

the cpu is actually decent

you won't get anything noticeably better unless you go to 600 euro or more

4gb ram is not ideal but you can cheaply buy 4gb ddr4 on amazon and just click it in (I took the time to check that it has a free ram slot) - all you need is a common screwdriver to remove the back panel and it does not affect warranty in any way

This takes a bit of work but the Lenovo Ireland education store has a really good offer at the moment on the Ideapad Gaming 3i for <€260 (Despite the name it comes with an i5 11th gen processor)

Granted the laptop has an aggressive style due to its gaming branding and has poor battery performance but pound for pound is currently excellent value

To register on the Lenovo student website all you need is access to a working email from a third level institution.

Unfortunately this offer ended about 48 hours after I initially posted and the laptop was delivered for the price pictured. I don't believe it was a misprice it was just elligible for stacked codes, however I did wait for notification that my order was shipped before posting the offer here.

It went back upto full price for a week or so and now is currently available for €598 with the current student offers. The laptop is perfectly functional and was an absolute steal at €260 but not sure if the value is there at €600, it does have a very plasticy feel to it compared to the laptops I have typically used before (Refurb Dell Latitudes)

Yeah, I’m absolutely sickened I didn’t see it within that 48 hours. I’ve been saving for a Legion 7 or 5 pro for a while now and stopped looking at this place and hduk because it was wrecking my head no being ready to buy one then. But if I had seen this laptop for that price I would have atleast had a laptop while I saved.

best advice is spend the extra and buy the matebook d15 i5 11th gen in argos

it's a far far better laptop in every respect and will repay the extra outlay over much longer service

the argos one has a slightly bigger screen and a faster i5 processor the 14 only has an i3 . so the extra money on the i5 and the bigger screen would be worth a bit more

i got the one i linked on amazon the i3 D14 for 360 euro ( gone off the site now ) .. the argos one linked is 583 ..it will be used for basic secondary school tasks. i3 will do fine for that.

checked camelcamel and the d14 is usually 400 sterling.. so bit of a save...

In my opinion lenovo is good, But the Asus Zenbook series is the better. Asus has backlight keyboard and its battery backup is very nice. I like to suggest you to go the Asus Zenbook.
