How do HAP back payments work?

Hi, I have just moved into a new flat and paid my landlord the first months rent + deposit, I have been approved for HAP and have sent off the form to them with the details of my new accommodation but there was no section to put my bank details in so I’m just wondering how to they pay back the first months rent that I gave the landlord? Do they pay it directly to me or do they give it to the landlord and he’s supposed to give it to me. I can’t seem to find any answers online so any help would be appreciated. Thank you

(HAP doesn’t cover my full rent btw it just covers some so I know they won’t pay it all back and I have been told already that it can take 6-8 weeks to be processed)

They don't pay back money you've already paid. It's not like rent allowance is my understanding from assisting a family member and a friend apply a few years back.

Are you sure? My landlord said that they will back pay the first month rent? So you have to pay the first month rent and maybe second month rent (if it’s not processed in time) by yourself?

HAP is paid in arrears so you usually have to cover the first month at least. Technically this might be paid back at the end of your tenancy, but it would be the landlord who gets the last month's payment and you could ask him for it then I guess.
