Amazon charging VAT on some books?

    Hi,

    I was putting in an order for 3 Japanese Anime books (Demon Slayer,) and the total came to £20.96. at checkout, it sais £22.84 with a message saying "Order totals include VAT". The VAT works out at about 9%.

    What VAT rate is this? It's purely a set of books - no digital media included.

    It's not the first time I've seen this...

    Are they books or comics?


    Also maybe they are periodicals (13.5%)


    The zero rate is quite specific. Also excludes manuals, notebooks, magazine style books and others

    They're comic books (Demon Slayer Vol. 3, for example). It's a series of 23 in all.

    Hmm .. just spotted another thread asking the same question (sorry). So Ireland charges VAT on comic books .. but the UK does not ..
